How can Valtrex effect test results?

Could Valtrex cause a false negative IGG blood test in an old infection? I have heard it can delay the production of antibodies in a NEW infection, but I was visually diagnosed with herpes 4 years ago.

The IGG test was done 4 years after the visual diagnosis, while I was on Valtrex 1 gram daily for the first time ever, and had been on it for about 3 weeks straight before the test.

Just wondering if there is a need to retest, or should I accept the negative results? Thanks!

Your doctor is correct. This would be for new infections only not ones a person is already diagnosed with. I miss read your question.

Thanks, I'm still confused about what that means for my situation.

Are you saying Valtrex could have prevented my test from turning positive?

My doctor told me that Valtrex would not effect the results, because I was diagnosed with herpes 4 years ago, so the 'old' antibodies the Igg test detects would show up if they were there, and could not be effected by the Valtrex because of the way the medicine works.

But then again I have had doctors tell me a lot of things about herpes that weren't accurate...

Hi again. It can only delay a blood test from turning negative to positive.
