I have had breakouts on my right buttocks for 15 years. Until approximately 2 year ago, I only had a few breakouts per year and the symptoms I had were localized. About 2 years ago, I began developing a fever and flu-like symptoms - headaches, body aches, with each breakout. The symptoms were debilitating enough that I often missed at least one day of work. However, I only had 2-3 breakouts per year so I just dealt with it. I should mention that I have been celibate for the last 15 years as well. About 6 months ago, I had back to back breakouts, 30 days apart - one on my butt, followed by one on my tongue. That was the first time I had had a breakout somewhere other than my butt. The flu-like symptoms were worse as well. I went to my GP and we started suppressive therapy, 1000mg, once per day. She tested me for Herpes and HIV - she was worried that I was immunocompromised. She did a full blood panel as well. I have Herpes but not HIV. Otherwise, the bloodwork was unremarkable. I am relatively healthy. Today, a breakout has started on my butt. I ache all over, have a 99 temp, and headache. I called my GP and she said to take 1000mg, 2x day for 3 days and call back on Monday. Should I be doing something other than what we're doing? Should I see an infectious disease doctor?
