Symptoms of Herpes with no Antibodies

Hi Doctor,

I received oral sex from a guy about 7 months ago, and developed a paper cut-like lesion below my clitoris within 2 weeks.  The same lesion (in the same location) has reappeared a total of 4 times over the last 7 months.  Each time, the lesion lasts for about 3 days and then is followed by intense itching on my inner labia for a few weeks.  (The itching is not coming from the same spot as my lesion, and only begins after the lesion has healed.)  I got tested with the HerpesSelect IgG tests for both HSV 1 and 2 at 3 months and 7 months post-exposure, and everything came out negative both times.  I’ve also been tested for all other STDs, yeast, and bacteria, all of which were also negative.  I have not had the opportunity to do an HSV culture, but hope to do so if the lesion comes back again.  So my questions for you are:

1. Does this sound like it could be herpes?

2. What are the chances that I am one of those rare people who has herpes but doesn’t develop HSV antibodies?  What percent of people with HSV 1 or HSV 2 in the genital area don’t develop antibodies?

3. I plan on getting pregnant in the near future.  If I am indeed someone who has herpes but does not develop antibodies, am I going to risk passing this on to my baby, since I won’t be able to pass the antibodies to the baby?

Thanks for your help.

the expert forum is pretty strict about how many times they'll reply to someone - just because you pay, doesn't mean they will answer hence why I said what I did.

our read before posting post on this forum says we don't comment on posts that are also posted in the experts forum.

Sally,

Coming from someone that was convinced for a year that every thing groin related must be herpes...  I would think you are most likely fine.  A negative 7 month test should be plenty of time to develop antibodies to a detectable level.

As for those that never develop antibodies but have symptoms...  I haven't seen any research on this, but would think it is a very small percentage and your outbreaks would be pretty severe if you body didn't have any protection to HSV.

If that is your concern before having a child, I would have your doctor ready to do a PCR swab next time you have an outbreak.  If you have a positive result via a swab, then you will know for sure.

I tested negative at 4,7,11 and 16 weeks, then had a false positive at 1 year.  The false positive was confirmed negative via Western Blot, but I then developed some jock itch due to an abdominal surgery I had.

I'm sure this is jock itch, but when the redness and itching started, I still thought herpes.

I would think you don't have herpes and these lesions are something else.

There's really no reason to be so rude Grace. I've paid again because I have more information now and I have a different question.  If I want to pay again then I deserve to get an answer to my follow up question.  So thanks for nothing.

you've paid to ask this once again in the experts forum. follow up there and get your money's worth if they will even answer it for you since you've already previously had a post going there on this.
