What does this mean

Recently went to my doctor to get my yearly physical.  Tested for HSV 1 and HSV 2.  Results are as follows:

HSV 1 IgC, Type Spec <0.91
HSV 2 IgC, Type Spec 4.61 High

What do those results mean.  Doctor said that results showed that I have been in contact with someone who has Herpes but that I am not a carrier of the disease.  Also stated that if I were to come in contact with this person again the likely hood of me contracting Herpes incresases since I have already been exposed.

What does this really mean? Do I have Herpes?  Am I at risk of passing this on to someone else, even if I have protected sex? How could I have contracted this disease when I practiced safe sex with an individual who has Herpes?

condoms reduce transmission of hsv2 by 30% on average.

any other contraceptive doesn't reduce std transmission at all.

yes, I have a regular partner? They are going to get tested today.

Does use of contraceptives help against the spread of the virus

your hsv1 is negative.

your hsv2 is positive. Your provider is completely off base though.   It doesn't show that you've been in contact with the virus, it shows that you are infected and are able to transmit the virus to others.

do you have a regular partner? if so, have they been tested yet?
