Black scabs on penis shaft

I've recently noticed 10 or so black scab like wounds on my penis. My doctor initially thinks they are not consistent with the appearance of herpes. He had taken an alcohol swap to it (which broke off the scab) so he could do some testing. I have no other symptoms associated to herpes. No pain in the lymph nodes, no pain during urinarion, nothing at all. Any thoughts to what they might be, if it turns out not to be herpes?

Unfortunately i can't say with any certainty. You might want to see a dermatologist if your dr is stumped. I'm glad you were swabbed. If they were hsv lesions then there is a good chance the virus already retreated down the nerve path and your test would be negative. Usually when lesions scab over and are in the healing stage hsv isn't present anymore.
