duration of first outbreak

I have had my first known outbreak of HSV-1 on my genitals and it has lasted now over 3 weeks.  Does this long period of time mean I will be more susceptible to recurrent outbreaks?  Do other people have outbreaks longer than 3 weeks?
Thanks for any information.

from your other post I see you are female and did have the + lesion culture.

have they been testing you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when you are seen?

burning feeling and redness is often fungal in nature. since it's been 5 weeks, time to be seen again and get a further work up to see if anything else other than herpes is still going on.

I assume you had a lesion culture that said hsv1+ when you were seen?

the first ob can take up to 6 weeks to run its course. 2-3 weeks is typical with or without treatment but some folks do take longer. When it gets to the end of the time frame though like you are and you used antivirals, best to follow up to see what else is going on.

just to confirm, are you male or female?

Thanks for your comment.  Yes, I am on anti virals valatrex and it seems to not be working.  I probably started about 7 days after the symptoms started.  I had oral sex with a man briefly one night and I didn't know you could contract herpes genitally from oral sex.

Thanks for your comment.  I am now into my 5th week and am so scared it will not end.  Just the continual burning feeling and redness.  Has yours subsided?  What are your symptoms?  Do you have hsv-1 on the genitals?

Did you  take a prescription of antiviral?  I did, and my lesions themselves cleared, but the sick feeling and extreme fatigue stayed 3 weeks. The aching feet and legs, tingling and itching, are into the 4th week. My genital herpes is HSV-2 however.

it's been 8wk for me, but it seems to be longer for women than men, and jus depends on the person i think. if you are healthy otherwise you are likely to get rid of it quicker and have fewer outbreaks apparently
