for years i have had bumbs in my genital area before i had sex with any1. i went to my gyno several times and was told the bumbs were not herpes in nature and that the bumbs i was experiencing was folliculitis. i was in a relationship for 4 years my partner never had any bumbs in the genital area. my last sexual partner never had any bumbs either. i did some blood work n my results are hsv igG 6.06....im wondering if this could be a mistake. i recently joined the military and if im not mistaken they test every1 for these thing before n i have not been with any1 after joining could my results be a mistake should i get tested again....im so confused rightnow

the military usually does not include herpes testing in it's testing. you'd have to check to see if you were really tested for herpes then or not.

* and when i said until now i meant i have still not been sexually active i just dont see how i would have gotten an STD especially one that requires physical contact with another person

yes a 6.06 is positive but how is it possible? i was tested when i joined the military and i was not positive....i have not been sexually active from 6months before joining until now...so i think it is possible that i got the wrong results.... i would think that with all the stress i was under in basic training would have made something show up....labs do make mistakes

most clinics send out their herpes testing to outside labs.

your hsv2 igg is + and well over the typical false positive cut off rate. You should consider yourself hsv2+ and if you have a current partner, they need tested to know their own status.

jus t because what is going on now isn't herpes, doesn't mean you can't possibly have hsv2 too.

i have never had any cold sores or any sores on or around my genital area....what r the chances of the labs getting mixed or contaminated...the lab i went to does not perform the test itself it send the test to specialty laboratory...would it make sense to test again. im not and have not ever had any symptoms i think im afraid to have another test done cause it can confirm the test is positive...im thinking i should ignore the test

O.k., so you clarified each result. Your HSV1 came back negative, but even the best blood tests miss 1 out of 10 HSV1 infections, should you think you've had cold sores in the past.

As to your HSV2 result, yes 6.06 would be positive. But as to the symptoms, "bumps" that you had prior to being sexually active, they would have been something else if you'd never had sex - genital herpes is an STD and requires sexual contact.

If you had a type specific test, there would be numeric values for BOTH HSV1 and HSV2. I believe you had a combined test if that's not the case. You are pretty certain you have oral herpes, so a combined test most likely would come back positive.

the test was "herpes simplex virus types 1&2 IGG ABS (HERPESEL"
this was at the top of the result page.... hsv 2 igG came back 6.06
i went to my gyno again 2day i was told that the bumbs are not herpes that indeed it is folliculitis.... but im still confused as to y the test results came back positive..could it be a mix up at the lab or could it be that im one of those people that dont show any symtoms

Find out if your test was an "IgG type specific blood test". If so, was the 6.06 the result for HSV1? What was the HSV2 result?

I don't believe the military screens for HSV, but even so it's not a stopper for any job, anywhere.  The majority of adults have oral HSV1, it's incredibly common.
