hsv 1 test results

I received HSV 1 test results over the phone, and all the nurse said was that it was positive. When I asked if this could be wrong, she said the result was 1.34 (my guess is that this is the IGG test, but I have not seen the written results).

I'm wondering if this is in the range of getting being possibly wrong and if I should get retested at a later date? I've read that HSV 2 results under a certain range should be retested, but I'm not sure about HSV1.

(My skepticism is because I have not had cold sores in the past.)

Thanks very much for your help.

not everyone gets full blown cold sores.

your hsv1 igg is +.  there doesn't seem to be the false positive issues with hsv1 testing like there is hsv2. you really don't have any reason to doubt your hsv1 igg. most adults do have hsv1 whether they know it or not.

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  is a terrific link for more reading.

did you also get tested for hsv2?

Thanks for responding. I had some inflammation around my lips and the doctor though it might be herpes, but I never thought it was, as I've never gotten cold sores, just redness. Anyway, that's why I was surprised it came back positive.
