Worried about Ocular Herpes

Hello

Today I have been extremely worried about Ocular Herpes

About 1-2 weeks ago my upper lip was burning and tingling for around 5 days, it was extremely irratating but I never got a full blown sore/blister, I did notice what looked like a small blister or cut about a millimetre long on my upper lip where the burning was but you could barely see it at all. Someone on this forum said it did sound like HSV-1 but I never got tested for it because testing is not available in the UK.

During that time I may have touched the the burning area and rubbed my eye a few times, mostly during the morning when I woke up, most other times I would use the palm of my hand to rub my eye, not my fingers. I was washing my hands a lot more often as well.

Today my eye started to feel watery and so I am getting worried about Ocular Herpes. Is it possible to spread HSV-1 to your eye yourself? How worried should I be?

Thank you both

I have one more question.

If someone did have oral herpes but was not having an outbreak and there fingers touched their lip and got saliva on it, then they immediately used the same fingers to scratch their eye BUT they covered the fingers in their t- shirt so no skin was touching the eye, could this be a danger? Like what if the saliva went through the clothing into the eye?

indeed type specific herpes igg blood testing is available in the UK!!  You have to pay out of pocket for it. lesion cultures are done at the GUM clinics routinely when you have new symptoms that are less than 48 hours old.

if you are concerned that you have a hsv1 eye infection, see an eye doctor. The test for herpes infections in the eye is incredibly simple and gives immediate results.

most herpes eye infections in adults is caused by the hsv1 infection traveling up the nerve ganglia to the eye. It's not usually from touching your lip area and then your eye. It happens but it's not all that common of an issue.

could your lip be oral herpes? could be. also many other things it could be. you can pursue proper testing at the proper times with type specific herpes igg blood testing. also don't forget to make sure you've had your hpv shots and get tested for syphilis even if you are having protected contact with others.

Seek medical advice for the eye symptoms.

Again most unlikely that this is herpes causing the eye problems. If it is then it can be treated appropriately.

Whoa that's a bit unfair. There is no reason to believe that a CSW has any more chance of transmitting HSV1 than your Aunt Fannie.

Most people are infected with the virus less than age 3. You cannot be sure at all as to whether you carry the virus or not.

I highly doubt I have had HSV-1 since youth,  I have been visiting escorts on and off for the past few months and I probably picked it up from there (if I have it at all)

There is the possibility that you have HSV1. This is mainly because it is so common and you are more likely to have it than not.

That said if what you have is HSV1 then it is most likely you've had it since your youth. This makes innoculation of other areas exceptionally difficult. If you have concerns an eye doctor will be able to advise on whether you have herpes in the eye and give you antiviral drops or administer treatment. I'd suggest this isn't likely at all to be the case.

Also, if I did have HSV-1 I think it would have been the primary stage which makes me more scared? Please can someone help???!!!

I should also mention the times when I may have rubbed my eye with my finger was probably 20 seconds to a minute after my fingers had made contact with the burning area, does this make sense?

Also the watery feeling in my eye today only started occuring when I was looking at my phone in the dark which might have strained by eyes.

I am extremely worried about ocular herpes though because I have a holiday/vacation on 4th July and I don't want to ruin it.
