Please help me (HSV2)

For the past year I have had a slight irritation on my penis head but it is very slight and doesn't bother me much. I had the same girlfriend for a 1.7 years until 5 months ago. I decided to just get tested because I have started speaking to her again but when I was single I was having sexual intercourse with other women. (When I was with her I still had the slight irritation but she got tested twice in the relationship for everything and was always clean.)

The problem is the HSV2 test came out positive
Here are my results

HSV1 IGM NEGATIVE 0.78
HSV2 IGM POSITIVE 1.26
HSV1 IGG AB NEGATIVE 0.35
HSV2 IGG AB NEGATIVE <0.01

(the chlamydia and syphilis tests came out good as in I don't have them)

Now I want to know how accurate this is? I spoke to my doctor's office and they said that I have it and there is no possible way it was incorrect and that I need to start taking the medicine for this. I personally want another test because it seems that this might be flawed.

I would really appreciate it if someone helped.

Thanks

MAT

herpes igm testing is inaccurate and shouldn't have been drawn on you. Current CDC herpes testing guidelines advise against it and your provider should be following their guidelines.

your igg results are negative for both hsv1 and hsv2.

just make sure your gf actually gets tested for herpes with her std testing. usually it's not a part of routine std testing but folks don't realize it. also make sure she actually gets std testing and not just yearly pap tests which aren't std testing.

Thanks for the info. I tried explaining this to the nurse and she said I have it thats it case closed. She told me I need to start taking meds. I told her if I could get retested and she said we could see what we can do but as of right now you have it. What should I do in this situation because now my family thinks I have it because they sent Herpes flyers on how to live with it. Sorry I know you are probably very busy.

Thanks

the nurse you spoke to is wrong. It's actually malpractice to diagnose herpes based on + igm results.

talk to your doctor about your results. Encourage them to better educate themselves and their nurses so that they don't risk getting sued like they are now!!!  they should be reading the 2010 guidelines and following them.

there is no reason for you to be taking any herpes medication.

just tell your family you requested the fliers so you could better educate yourself on this very common infection :)

Hey Grace,

So my ex girlfriend told me she got tested and her nurse said she was reactive or positive (not sure what term she said) for syphilis. She said it had to be by me because she hasn't been with anyone else and not too long ago we saw each other to try and fix our relationship. This was about a week ago. But since Tuesday or so she has been sick she can barely speak because her mouth if full of "warts" and they keep popping on their own and blood keeps coming out of them, she also said she has small red bumps around her butt and can barely eat because of the "warts" in her mouth. Just so you know she has been getting treated for cancer and has a weak immune system.

I was wondering is there any way my syphilis test was a false negative? Also can my igm test maybe mean I have syphilis? I know this is a lot of information but please try and help. One more thing are there any possible of bacteria or viruses that are not stds that could possible give my ex girlfriend those symptoms? Could I have given her syphilis without having the symptoms myself?

it's doubtful she has a mouth full of oral warts that are bleeding.  hopefully she is being properly followed up on with her providers for all her symptoms.

there isn't a high risk of false negatives for syphilis. odds are yours are accurate.  since I don't know her syphilis results, hard for me to comment on them.  In case she really does have syphilis, repeat your own testing 6 weeks after you last had sex with her.

no, a syphilis infection isn't giving you a false positive igm as far as we know.
