Even during an active outbreak, usually HSV is not transmitted. I agree many ER docs are not herpes experts, and her "big trouble" comment wasn't justified. She also seems to not know about the research that shows that taking acyclovir after exposure does not prevent infection. The only possible effect is to delay onset of symptoms and to make later diagnosis more difficult. I suggest you find more expert care (like your local health department STD clinic, a Planned Parenthod clinic, etc) then follow their advice about treatment, follow-up, and maybe later testing for HSV.
Went to the dr they gave me acyclovir... I was told bec I went in so soon it could help me hot get it . Is this true .
Pleas help me the dr was unsure. She said I was in big trouble. But that she was a er dr and isnt that up to date on herpes. I took the pills as soon as I got home
What is my risk everywhere l look says it is verry contagious during a outbreak. So lest just say ( this didnt happen ) but sex with someone that is haveing a outbreak without a condom. What is the chance they get infected. Idont know howmuch this matters but I have hsv1
Also I was sleeping when you posted I have ben checking this every 5-10 minutes.
I feel so dirty now, I went to the store and got latex gloves so I can go to the bathroom. And bleach pleas help im going crazy with fear I have ben looking at this sight and others now since I came home since fryday 15 hours stright sleep and back to it olney left my houspe twice to go to the er and store taking my temp every hour. I cant even pick my nose without gloves or wash my face I wont scratch anythaing im chaing my pants and boxers every 2-3 hours called all the hot lines I could find moste are closed. Found some stories but none like mine.
I totally understand the anxiety this situation is causing you.... I think many of us are in similar situation and the mental impact is beyond explanation.
Sorry.. Posted it before I had a chance to finish my thought ( u see how this is impacting me 2). The good news is u wore protection so at least that is 30-50% safer than not... And Grace and the doctors said one time encounter is low risk. So your odds are getting better... However, this person is really malicious to sleep with u while she knows she has an outbreak... That is just plain wrong but one cannot judge or changed what happened.
As for what the ER doctor said... Not sure what that means? Did they see something?
At this point we can only do the responsible things which are (1) if you see any suspicious lesions, sores, bumps, etc... Go get swabbed within 48 hours (2) get a blood test 4 months or maybe a bit earlier if really can't bear waiting just to confirm.
I been and still is in panic mode myself but at times I tell myself I do what I can do and the rest I hand it over to God. This helps with anxiety a bit.
Hope this helps a bit but I know nothing can be said to ease the nervous until time goes by. I will pray for you... S
No they didnt see anythaing but gave it to me anaways just to be safe.
So im I in or out of the high risk category. It is day 2 and I have no symptoms
Also I quit taking the meds the doc gave me. Pleas. Stay in contact with me im so scard.i wish I could just go into a coma for a while.
Based on what I read in this forum... The likelihood of outbreak is 2-20 days.... But then again, I read many posts where people have it much later but it maybe that they mad really mild outbreak ( not sure what that means thou). So the actions you need to do is listed in my previous post .... Do them and if by 16 weeks... U have no outbreak and blood test negative... Then u r really home free but I will like other more experienced moderators confirm as I am also very new to this :(
Hope u get a good night of sleep.. I been taking sleeping pills to be able to sleep so that might help too.
In the mean time, go read about the herpes hand book that grace post link to. Even if everything is neg ,..... Then you learned something about the virus for your future safety so u won't have to come back to the forum again :).
Good luck and we support each other!
I shouldent be here in the first place im married 15 years my wife will be home in 2 weeks and she will want to have sex that night. Im so scard. I am thanking of hurting my sealf break a leg ro something to avoid sex with her. This is to much for me. I need to know now.
I go it ! A plan im going to make a appointment tomorrow to see another dr. One that I can work with through this whole thaing. Im going to tell my wife I have kidney stones or something like that and it hutrs me verry much to do anything sexually. I will lookup good reasons to not have sex. If I have to tell her I will but till then sompthing is killing my little guy to much to play.
I took 2 sleeping pills and im still up. Im still to much in panic mode to sleep just doing research on my situation.
Ok so I may have lied just a little on her telling me that she had herpies. I asked her and she said no. I just figured she was lieing so I went stright to herpies in my head. good news is I looked up pics of herps and they look nothing like what I saw. This is some crapy roller coaster ride. So she olney had red scabs on her butt none on her vjj they were about dime and nickel sized spaced about 1" apart not blochy just Circle oval shaped none were small and nothing in between. Bad news I had sex with her so I guess im still on this rollercoaster nightmare. She was big and it may have ben heart rash bec its hot out. Sticking to the same plan appoment on the 28 th.
I think u will be ok from this and I think we all learn from the lessons taught. Hang in there ... Praying for u!
I've walked in your shoes. She said she was negative but you think you know better. Stop beating yourself up. Try to get out of your own head. It isn't easy but you wore a condom (good thing) and you don't know whether or not she is even HSV2+ (another good thing)... but then you made up this whole story about an active outbreak which obviously took you to a whole different place.
She did have a rash. And yes sorry I said that she told me that. Ill olney put facts from now on. Some good question now can you have a outbreak on your buttocks but not on your vagina. That is one thaing I do rember verry well. The v jj looked just as it should. Also day 4 and nothing... well its hot and im freeking out so I may have some burning feeling on my buttocks well acc I though I had every symptom + 10 more. I have made up my mind that im just going to let the doc make up his/her mind and tell me what to do.I've never been so eager to see a doctor before in my life. Im still going to look at these postes thoe no one knows but you and I need some support. Trying to keep it togeather but that is harder said than done. just this morning I was thanking bad very bad thoughts.
Day 5 and nothing but stress. still no peace of mind. Going to the dr tomarrow to get a test. Ill use it as my base line. Seen on this web sight that it was a good idea.
Day 6 the dr visit.
Went to the dr. Took a blood test it was hsv/1/2 igg rflx 1&2 type sp. Told the dr what happend and what I saw. She said herpies is verry contagious and if I came into contact with a sore I have a strong chance im also infected. But I wore a condom so I have hope. Then she made a sad face.
U don't even know she is hsv2 positive right? You assume that what it was so don't let ur head get a head of the game here. So just relax ... Ur doc is right condom only protect 30-50% but with one time encounter... The odds are in your favor. Come back and let us know ur results but it is really too early to tell at this point. Will be praying for u!
You really need to calm down. A rash is not to be mistaken for herpes lesions, it would not be mistaken!
Thank you all for your positive comments. I got my test back and the numbers are hsv1 50.50 positive hsv2 0.91 . Neg for hsv2. I set up another appointment for the 16 th. So far so good no symptoms the test is as I expected. Trying to stay positive started reading the Bible and I prayed to god for all of you who have this and for everyone on this rollercoaster ride of not knowing.
