please educate me

So Im so scared and not to sure how to use this site, I see that you have answered many of peoples questions and I really need help.

I found out I was pregnant April of 11 was tested for everything under the sun and was negative for HSV2 but I have had HSV1 for my whole life. One evening I had itching near my anus, 2 days later I had small blisters that looked just like the ones I get as a coldsore.

I went to my doc he looked at it and said it was not herpes but I begged him to test me. I cam back just 2 points over what would be considered positive. I have been with one person since the birth of my son and he says he has never had anything happen to him like that. But he does have a red area on his penis that get irritated every now and again. no blisters or anything.

Questions:
1) can that area be herpes on him?
2) can you only spread herpes from the site of where you have an outbreak with skin to skin contact?
3) discharge associated with herpes, is it contagious?
4) Ive started taking Valtrex 500mg but I am breaking them in half and it is keeping my symptoms at bay. Is that ok??

I have read and researched so much and can not find these answers, if there is any information you can enlighten me with I would greatly appreciate it.

I have had 2 little bump things in the same exact spot that I had the last issue. The first time it was a few more and there was only two near my anal area this time. I keep getting this discharge, I never had before too.

Im still getting coldsore taking Valtex too.. So until I have insurance again to get test and a culture done I want to make sure I am safe and honest with anyone I might date in the future.

So to be on the safest side of the wall, is it possible for me to trasmitt HSV2 to a partner giving me oral if they are negative HSV2?
If I am not having any signs or syptoms of it and on suppresive therapy?

I will stop taking the meds for a while and see if I have any other symptoms. I just wish there was a health clinic that offered help with these types of issues. I hope that you have nice holidays! Thank you again! :)

I would stop suppressive therapy completely and get your next lesion cultured to confirm your status. if you are still getting recurrences while on suppressive therapy, it's important to find out if indeed this is all a hsv2 related issue or not.

Grace, I wish I could. I do not have insurance again and my partner and I broke up and he refuses to learn his results. I have been taking Valtrex even tho, because I have been getting bad cold sores. There is no place to go and get this done at a health clinic and Im a single mother and can not afford the extra testing. Very stressful :(

I have done research on this topic about oral sex with hsv-2.
I found that if you haven't had an initial sore on your mouth during the first outbreak, HSV-2 is highly unlikely to be oral for the person.  That is why it's called genital herpes.  There are still chances, but very unlikely.
And being on Valtrex daily helps with overcoming an outbreak. You never know when another person will get it.

Valtrex (valcyclovir) is an anti-viral drug approved for treating initial genital herpes, recurrent genital herpes, and chronic suppressive treatment of recurrent genital herpes. In clearer terms, the drug is used to manage symptoms in individuals with herpes. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Valtrex to prevent transmission of herpes to an uninfected partner.

It's important to remember that Valtrex reduces, but does not eliminate, the risk of transmission. An important part of risk reduction with herpes is choosing when to have sex, what kind of sex to have, and using condoms.

I was wondering about oral sex, if you are on Valtrex daily. What are the chances of giving this to your partner threw oral sex? I am a female, if I do not have a break out and no signs of shedding, is there are greater chance or is it easier to get HSV2 orally or are the chances pretty low?

Thank you so very much for your input. I will look into those website and get to work!! I dont know if people tell you enough but your work on here is important and appreciated.

I will too go get tested again with that specific test and just see what happens. If we have to we will save to money and go get him tested.

I have decided I will work threw what ever outcome and take care of it. Im not going to let this ruin my happiness with things. I possibly have HSV2 but it will not have me. :) God bless

Thank you again!

your hsv2 igg is just barely positive. at this point, your partner will need tested to know his status. if he is negative, you can seek out a herpes igg blood test to see if you really have hsv2 or not. odds are you really are not hsv2+ if your partner is negative but always best to confirm to know for sure.

has your partner looked at testing through an online testing center like tstd or healthcheckusa?

is taking 250mg a day of valtrex keeping you from shedding if you do have hsv2? not likely.  if you do confirm that you have hsv2, acyclovir is way cheaper - $4 at walmart without insurance for episodic therapy and under $20 for daily suppressive therapy.

Thank you for responding so quick.

I have always had HSV1 since I was a little girl

Test Results on 4/20/11
HSV1 IGG >5.00
HSV2 IGG <0.09

Test results on 06/27/12
HSV1 IGG 3.83
HSV2 IGG 1.16

No he did not swab me, he looked at it and asked if it itched, it did he gave me flagyl. I took it and it went away and sore near my anus went away very very quick. He looked at the sore and said it did not look like herpes and it would hurt a ton if it was. But I test Positive by what I am looking at. The level is low but that does not mean that it is false.

My boyfriend was trying to get tested but it cost alot of money where I live and they do not test for it at free clinics. (which is just crazy to me)

Can you only give herpes from  skin to skin contact from the area of which you are getting the sores?
Is taking half a valtrex keeping me from shedding? It is just so expensive and taking half of one seems to be keeping everything at bay.

I just want to be  a responsible as possible with this virus.

I can best help you if you can post your actual test results - e.g. hsv1 igg 5.4 and hsv2 igg 3.9 or whatever they are.

should your partner be tested to know his own status? yes he should if you are still with him. you two can't make educated decisions about what precautions to take together until you know who has what.

when you were seen, if you have discharge, did they test you properly for infections and std's?
