so, what are the chances of ...

hello everyone!

i'm 23, male, and since a child i remember having a cold sore here or there, thus making me HSV-1 positive. now, i have not had one for a few years now, the last 2 being 18 or 19 and directly connected (methinks) with damage to the lip (i played trumpet for 5 years in the blistering cold for football season after football season.)

so, anywho, my question is this:
how high are the risks of HSV-1 germies sitting around in my saliva for no apparent reason, with no symptoms, nothing -- and if by chance that saliva were to come in contact with my genitals, would i be prone to transmit the virus down below?

y'know, i just realized, i've forever since puberty using saliva as mastubatory lube and it just dawned on me that perhaps i should stop.

anyone have any input on this? i really appreciate you taking the time to read my post!! thanks everyone :)

I recommend using a decent lube - for reasons far beyond herpes!  A decent lube will help cut down on friction. It also is less likely to transfer normal mouth flora to the genital area ( like fungus which can lead to jock itch in males ).

Will you transmit your own hsv1 oral infection to your genital area? Not likely. Your body has protective antibodies built up to help keep that from happening.
