malta fever (brucellosis)

hi,

I have brucellosis for more than 2 years now. And mr doctor keeps prescribing 2 Doxycycline, 3 Rifampin and 4 cotrimoxazole on daily basis and 10 monthly injections of Gentamicin.

I used these cure for more than 2 years. My question is that: Is there any other treatment for malta fever? Will I be fine one day? I'm getting tired of this illness.

thank you
rahi

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi Rahi,
I understand your concern regarding your condition. Antibiotics are the primary treatment for brucellosis. And longer courses of therapy may be needed if there are complications.  Symptoms may continue for years and relapse may occur. It is best that you discuss this management plan with your attending physician. Seeking another doctor's opinion or referral to an infectious specialist may also help.
Take care and do keep us posted.
