Oh, I read my report again and it said that the cyst was 4.4cm not mm. 4.4 mm is pretty small. :)
cm are larger than mm!!!!!!!! My daughter had a CT and then ultrasound as had unexplained pain in the general kidney area. We were told her kidneys were polycystic (lots of them) but the doctor was not at all concerned, I was really worried hearing this as I have kidney disease. however mine is a structural defect, no bladder, so not genetic. Just hope the doc is right!!!! Her pain settled though quite quickly anyway. I think everyone should know their egfr though, thats what kidny health australia says anyway. if normal they suggest is still checked as part of your yearly medical check up
Therapy for a cyst in the kidney is based on the size and the pressure symptoms it is causing. So, a regular follow up is necessary to monitor its growth. Also, renal function tests may help assess the functioning of the kidneys.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
