Elevated AST

I had my annual physical today and all the blood work was good except for ALT which was 55, AST which was 49. My doctor said is elevated, but very minor (just over the normal range) He said I should get an ultrasound and blood test in 1 more month...

Why didn't he ask me if I had a Tylenol as I had a Tyylenol 2 days prior to the Blood test..Wouldn't the Tylenol be the reason for the elevated result. I also ran 5 miles the night before the blood test.  Lastly, I had Novacain 2 days prior due to some dental work..Wondering if the Tylenol/Novocaine/Running have any correlation to Elevated ALT/AST

Note previous years had an average of 19 for AST, 14 for ALT, and 0.90 for Creatinin..I am also in good shape with no know medical issues. I am 6 '2 185 pounds. Non-Drinker.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The whole procedure will be done when you are lying down, so don't worry. However, they may ask you to turn sideways, to study the kidneys.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The AST and ALT levels are elevated in liver disorders. Besides this they are also elevated in conditions like muscle injury and sometimes due to medications. Tylenol can cause elevation of liver enzymes, but on chronic use and in increased dosages. If you do not have symptoms of liver disease like jaundice, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and fever, I would advise you to wait for now and repeat the test after four weeks to see how the levels are progressing.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
