Aside from drug contamination, there is a preliminary issue to address:  what infections do you really have, and what treatment is needed, and in what order?

This is a fast-changing area of medicine, and it's not like getting a big dose of penicillin to cure an earache.  It's far more complex.

There are at least two organizations that may provide financial support for those qualify:  LymeTAP and the LymeLight Foundation.  They have websites.

Yes---- the difference, as you pointed out, is a person who is already 'experienced' with Lyme, had already tried many other meds and probably protocols ----- and then desperation sets in for him or her.

It's entirely understandable. I've gone 'off the grid' at times. But it does require a certain amount of knowledge (not genius work) before one does that.

Throwing antibiotics at something that may not be Lyme or may even be a virus isn't wise. More damage could be done than good.

I'm not recommending anything for you as this is a deeply personal decision, but given the horrors I've been and continue to go through with Lyme, I would go to Mexico (or India or wherever) I could get antibiotics to treat Lyme IF it were my only choice.

I think the risk of contaminated drugs (which is probably a lower risk than getting drugs that aren't the described dosage) is less than the risk of being completely disabled by Lyme. I think the odds of the meds being useless are much higher than the odds of such meds hurting me.  I'm not a big risk taker, but I am willing to take measured risks to avoid the serious harm of Lyme.

I used to be a real stickler about medicine and following official guidelines.  The old me would have said, "NO, NO, don't go to a country with no controls on medicine!"  But since my experience, I have concluded that I would do whatever it took to stop Lyme from progressing in myself or a loved one.

The goal would be to get yourself to a point of wellness where you could find work with benefits and medical coverage that would (or would eventually) cover Lyme treatment, or that would provide you with the resources to pay for your own treatment here.

I emphatically agree with what Ephedra said.

I do know some experienced people with Lyme disease who have bought antibiotics from Mexico. By  experienced I mean they've been treating Lyme for years and know a lot about the problems that can come with treatment. Not to mention the very good chance of getting drugs that are adulterated, sometimes even with dangerous components.

You said you're not even sure if you have Lyme, though! That and your naive  thoughts about medicine/Lyme/treatments will make me say again----- please don't treat yourself for an disease that you don't even know you have!
Please.

We can't tell you what to do or not to do.  But I'll just say, there's a whole lot more involved than just getting some antibiotics and taking them!  Especially with Lyme!

Yea I understand why IGenex may be more accurate.

I personally have a great overseas pharmacy I deal with.  But I don't like to think about what if, when that didn't happened to be the case.

The lab testing that I had done needed a doctor's approval, but all that is done online without a problem at all.

Right now I'm under the care of a LLMD.  I don't typically go to Drs, so I don't really know if they'd accept a positive wb to start treatment or not.  My luck, I'd be thrown into an psych ward somewhere.

This is the first and last Dr I'm  probably going to deal with!  It's not like they really care, especially when labs say you're in perfect health!

"Sure, IGenex is best if you can afford it!  And can find a Dr to sign off on it! "

I didn't mean that LabCorp was awful for all of their tests. But their WB tests don't look for the same bands or as many as Igenex does.

I agree that Igenex is expensive and can be a deal breaker for many who just can't afford it.

Not needing a doctor to authorize the test you took is good--- and yours was negative. But what would have happened if your test had come back highly positive?

Wouldn't you need a doctor, then, to rx antibiotics? Would he accept that online test result?

Or would you order them from an overseas, Mexican or Canadian site or even a veterinarian site?

I don't know that they're that bad cave!

They did an IgM and IgG on mine!  If you went to an ID doc they'd probably do an ELISA and wouldn't even consider a western blot unless you were positive on the ELISA.  An ELISA is much worse than a LabCorp western blot.

If you had to pay for a LabCorp western blot through the Dr, it would be much more expensive!

And most sites want $130 - $150 for the test.  I just happened to find that one for $55.  I wasn't about to pay anymore for it!

Sure, IGenex is best if you can afford it!  And can find a Dr to sign off on it!

You can always do what I've done... save for the test. I have saved up just enough money for the appointment and the igenex testing to be done. It took several months, but here I am making an appt to see the Dr to get it done.

"  But everyone says they're [Igenex] more accurate. "

They are. File under ''you get what you pay for''  :)

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't believe a Lab Corp test if were positive or negative.
That's like going to an Infectious Disease doctor and believing HIS test.

I wonder how quickly LabCorp would put a persons blood in the centrifuge?
It has to be done asap.

That lab only did the IgM test. Hmmmm

Google affordable online lab testing. There are tons of companies that issue lab orders without a doctor.

For Lyme, I went through private md labs and it was $55. They were the cheapest for that particular test by far. Of course my test came back negative but at least I got that out of my system.

You order the test, they email you the lab order, and you take it to a nearby lab corp drawing center. Then you'll get the results when they're in.

For IGenex you'd have to have a doctors order and they're quite expensive. But everyone says they're more accurate.

Good luck!

Hello

I just wanted to let you know that I am having the same symptoms...twitching and extreme pressure on the bridge of my nose.  The doctors have ruled out everything and my tests for Lyme keep coming back negative so I don't know what to do next.

@ boots

It's not clear if you are under the care of a doctor or not. Can you let us know, because that can be important in how we answer you.

In order to have a blood draw by Igenex (or any other lab) you'd need a request by a doctor.

Then you'll need a doctor to read (interpret) the results. Labs do NOT send the results to the patient, however once a doctor has read them s/he can give a copy of it to the patient.

Then----- if treatment is necessary you'd definitely need a doctor to prescribe the medications----- which are rarely inexpensive. Paying for them out-of-pocket with no insurance can 'break the bank'.

If you DO have a doctor available who is willing to request a test by Igenex then that's good. The tests given by other labs have a high error factor.

Yes, go to IgeneX.com and they have all the info. You need to have someone draw the blood but yes it can be sent in the mail.

The best Lyme and co-infection tests can be found at IgeneX labs.
It isn't cheap but in the long run worth it because many of us have gone from doctor to doctor and from lab to lab.
