Go to the IGeneX website (igenex [dot] com), then look for a page called lyme_disease [dot] htm.
here that same URL written a bit differently (the system on this site blocks out email site addesses. take out all the extra spaces and that should give you a usable link to past into your browser:
www. igenex. com / lyme _ disease. htm
If it doesn't show up properly in this email, I will send it to you in a 'private message' through this website. look at the top of this page and you will see in the blue bar called 'My MedHelp'. Click on that and it will open up, then click through on the message.
You want to get IgeneX testing which if your doctor is forward thinking could sign for you
PS Yes, your family doc can indeed order the tests, but there are many tests for the different infections that the 'Lyme' ticks carry, and they aren't cheap, and even worse, tests from some labs are more accurate than others.
I would suggest finding an MD who is a member of ILADS, a voluntary group for MDs who specialize in Lyme and the other disease the Lyme ticks often carry. ILADS stands for International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society.
Welcome to MedHelp Lyme.
Yes, indeed, your regular doc (or any doc, for that matter) can order Lyme tests.
But here's the problem: there is a split in the medical community about
-- how serious Lyme is or is not,
-- which tests to use,
-- how to interpret the test results, and
-- how to treat whatever infections are there (ticks often carry several different infections).
There are about half a dozen infections the so-called 'Lyme' ticks often carry, and each infection needs separate testing ($).
A better approach is to see a Lyme specialist (we can give you some approaches on how to find one), because Lyme and its co-infections are quite new to the medical world, and many docs are not aware that the old standard tests are not very good and often fail to show a positive test when you really do have whatever the test is for.
And even if the doc gets lucky and sorts out what tests to give you, based on your system, then there is a problem with how to treat each infection, since they often need different meds.
There is a huge split in the medical community about Lyme, and it's all too easy to be under-diagnosed and under-treated. Lyme is a serious infection (related to syphilis) and needs careful diagnosis and treatment.
You also ask what tests are for Lyme. There are several, and they don't cover tests for other infections the so-called 'Lyme' ticks often carry.
So it's pretty complicated, and finding a knowledgeable doc who is expert in the Lyme field is very important. All docs *think* they understand Lyme, but a lot of them are using outdated test and treatment approaches.
If you search online for something like
-- pennsylvania lyme disease --
you will likely get a bunch of links to patient-oriented websites that can help you locate a good doc. That's what I would do.
Let us know if we can help further, ok? Best wishes --
Also, what are the tests for lyme?
