I suspect temp level in Lyme varies, depending on what coinfections are present, and how much the endocrine system (e.g., thyroid) is suppressed, and likely other factors as well. Sneaky Lyme bugs.
When I first contracted Lyme (but didn't know it) I had a low grade fever for years. The last 2 years, since my symptoms became disabling, my body temp runs 97.4.
I don't think a fever or lack of can rule out anything.
"So are Lyme and/or coinfections sometimes ruled out based on the lack of a fever?"
No.
A person can be seriously ill with Lyme or cos and NOT have a fever.
A person CAN have a fever and also have Lyme or cos.
I'm not sure where you read "Fever is usually the hallmark of many illnesses including Lyme and coinfections". It certainly isn't 'always' true of Lyme or cos (maybe sometime) but a fever can come about with many other illnesses.
In fact a lot of us (based on my years of reading other people's 'stories') often have a lower than 'normal' temperature. In my case I always had the 'perfect' 98.6 F unless sick.
Then I got Lyme and it always hovers around 97.4 or so even when I had my remission---- unless I got a cold or a rare flu.
Can you give us the source of that information? I'd like to know where that mis-information came from.
Could it possibly be a mis-interpretation of the 'Lyme will present with flu-like symptoms' mantra?
