Rico, I was in Texas when I got a picc line for hemochromatosis. It got infected because they never cleaned it. I wound up not having hemochromotosis anyway.
My veins are terrible. They couldn't get blood yesterday and they are use to cancer patients.
Thanks for mentioning about the shots. I will remember the ice and heat.
Did you have infections with your IV lines? I am trying to remember if that was you. I eventually figured out Rifampin was prolonging my stomach pain. It got better when I stopped it.
I didn't know Malarone could do that. Yikes. Do the infected cells explode when the meds kill the parasite inside?
One important thing about Bicillin shots... My first one in the office was torture. It left a sore spot and bruise for three+ days. I did some research online and other Lymies said you have to use an ice pack (15 minutes) to numb up the area first, then use a hot pack after to warm it up and help it to absorb. I found that 30+ minutes with the hot pack means no knot or bruise in my rear. My PA said quite a few people drop out of using shots, but she didn't know about the benefit of ice packs and hot packs. I don't think I could do it without them.
Thanks Rico for your support. Yes, the hospitalist looked at me like I had 2 heads. Very stressful.
Rico,
My bad experience was with Rifampin. I had rocephin IV in the hospital. No problem. Today the hematologist said Malarone did it to me. Caused my anemia. Dr Schaller, who I have emailed in the past, says Malarone should make your red cells explode. Mine did more than that. ;(
Seeing the cardiologist Friday. That is scary.
I will ask my LLMD about Bicillin LA. Good idea.
I am napping and resting well.
Thanks again!
So glad you're home! I remember the alone and scared feeling. That was me, too, almost a year ago. I had never been hospitalized for an illness before, and disbelieving doctors just add to the stress.
I remember you said you can't do Rocephin after two bad experiences. I am just wondering if your doctor considered Bicillin LA? It is working well for me. I get the benefit of parenteral antibiotics without the risk of the IV or port, and it is easier on my gut than orals. It makes for a faster recovery than just orals, which can't always get into the central nervous system enough to get the entrenched bugs. For those allergic to penicillin, I have also heard of Rocephin shots.
I hope you are resting well!
Glad to hear you got your mojo back! :)
Right back atcha mojogal!
I really appreciate your constant support here.
Really glad to hear you're though the crisis, and sending more hugs!
