Taking Aim at Lyme Disease

Just another post to alert folks to reports about reports on Lyme disease in the media.

This one comes from Chemical & Engineering News, a weekly magazine published by the American Chemical Society.  This multi-part story includes reporting on a new vaccine is being developed amid worries about a hostile reception.

From another article in the same group:
http://cen.acs.org/articles/91/i25/Shot-Against-Lyme-Disease.html

"Without a vaccine or other effective preventive measures, early diagnosis of Lyme disease becomes critical, medical experts say."

"In the absence of a vaccine, preventive measures will continue to be a top priority for CDC, Beard says. “We do everything in relation to that goal,” he notes. “It’s a challenge, yes, but impossible, no.”

And yet the CDC refuses to allow prophylaxis (upon tick bite) with a cheap and mostly well tolerated antibiotic. I don't think they're 'doing everything'.

But they will continue to try and produce a vaccine that is patentable that may not work any better that the last failed vaccine.

But one can hope.

Thank you for posting that! It's nice to see more articles here. Food for discussion, not argument.

I have to get started with my day now, but will revisit this thread.
