blood epstein barr high ?

Hi
I am new to this forum.  I contracted lyme in 1996 and have had a ride since.  I do not
have a spleen and according to joseph Burrascona's publications getting well is not real likely
w/o one.  the question is:::  Has anybody with lyme ever had a very high epstein virus count. Ithe epsteinshows
if one has mono but theres different numbers and mine is 600 normal is 16.  I am in truth thinking
this is indicative of a weak immune system due to lyme (or MS) (not sure which I have) rather
than having mono.  thanks for any input.

Hi, I was told back in Feb 2010 that I was poss for EBV (3.9) and i have now been to 5 more dr's and no one has answers for me and im geting sicker and sicker. Last month a new dr tested for Lyme - the screening was HIGH (poss) but when they did the Western Blot it was neg. So it's NOT Lyme?

I just did a quick google search for ["epstein barr virus" lyme] and came up with some interesting links, including a 1998 (!) medical journal article titled:

"Epstein-barr virus and cytomegalovirus infections cause false-positive results in IgM two-test protocol for early lyme borreliosis"

Now, that article's a bit dated, but there are lots of other hits in those search results too, and they are interesting in different ways.  The implication seems to be that the immune system can trigger odd results in tests for disease A but in reality you have disease B.

Have you been treated for EBV?  There are antiviral medications that might be worth a try.  You could of course have EBV as well as Lyme, so finding a broadminded MD who is willing to explore all the possibilities would seem a useful course of action.

Perhaps someone else here has more knowledge than I do, because we're way out of my tiny understanding.
