I'm so sorry about your friend. I am lucky my friend has done so well. I don't know what I would do without her. It is best to stay away from steroids if you can. She only took steroids for her face never as a pill or otherwise. She was on that plaquenil that ruined her eyes, but also Accutaine but it can rarely cause brain polyps and Diprolyene but these were all topicals. Now she is just on the low dose Minocycline (75mg/day) for her rosacea. There is some evidence that it is good for Lupus patients for knocking down the immune system (some) in addition for helping with the rosacea. Normally people take doxy for the rosacea and I'm taking the Finacea (which is new but very expensive). I use it because I am allergic to Doxy. Anyway, take care and let me know how you are. I may be tested for autoimmune diseases soon too. I am allergic to a whole lot of things and my doctor things some of the symptoms I have need to be checked out. I hope I don't have an autoimmune disease.

The bulls eye rash doesn't come up in many cases of lyme. It is very diagnostic if it does but unfortunately it doesn't present very often. I spoke with my friend on Thursday, who has Lupus, and she says that Australia has many cases up Lupus. I assume maybe due to lots of sun exposure that  that would be the trigger, but don't know why otherwise. I also asked her if she was ever in bed for long periods of time and she said no but that since lupus attacks different parts of the body it is hard to know. Just thought I would share that with you.
take care,

Wonderful that you are feeling better!
I'm the same as you, having lost so much weight in just 5 months, depression and anxiety.Balance problems and sensitivity to light have been the main problems. I started taking clarithromycin for whooping cough that I don't have....but they found something in a serology  blood test. Only take 250 mg a day.....doc told me to take 500 twice a day but it made me feel just awful. Today I felt 50% better, balance have improved, more energi.....did a lot of housework.I have a repeat on this med. I doubt GP will give me a months supply of doxy but i will ask. I can tolerate doxy pretty well....well I used to any way.

The tickbite will look like a bulls eye rash, red in color. From what I have read Lyme's Disease has been found on every continent, yours included.
