my llmd appointment

Hi everyone
i had my llmd appointment today and I think it went pretty good. We sat down and talked for almost two hours. He is a D.O instead of an M.D. I'm still not sure what the difference is but he seemed interested in holisitic/natural healing. I told him ALL of my symptoms and he believes I have lyme and maybe some co-infections. I was going to get the blood drawn today but they just ran out of Igenex kits. I'm going to go back Saturday to have my blood drawn. He put me on some herbal supplements for the time being. He treats many lyme patients and he says that almost all his patients got better with the herbal drops. I asked about taking some antibiotics. He said he can add antibiotics in a month if the herbal supplements arent working. He told me even if the results came back negative, he would still treat me. So he has me on Adrenal Support drops, Burbur Detox drops, Banderol Microbial Defense and Quina Microbial Defense-L3. I'm going to see him in 4 weeks for another hour appoitment to go over results from Igenex as well as how I'm doing on the supplements. Has anyone heard of these supplements? Would requesting antibiotics be a good idea when I see him next?

The llmd also seemed to think my past problems with pink eye, vertigo and other things are related to lyme. I told him I started getting neuro symptoms after a surgery I had and he said that would make sense. All and all I feel pretty good about this guy. Too bad its so expensive! Oh and he reccommended me to watch Cure Unknown and explained all the controversey with lyme to me.

Your doc sounds like a thoughtful D.O.

At the same time, I do agree with Wonko's comments above.

Keep us posted on progress -- I'm contemplating herbal treatment and am very interested to hear how you do.

Best wishes and take care -- hoping you see progress soon.

My doc had me take samento for a few weeks before starting abx, in hopes that easing into treatment would soften the blow.  However, I did then begin abx and only uses herbals/supps as support, not my main offense against the bugs.

That is truly a personal decision.  Docs and patients alike are split on this.  Some say abx don't work for them and that they prefer the herbal/alternative route.  Others say that abx is the only way to go.

Personally, I am of the mind that abx are a better option, and that herbals are more of a back-up strategy. I think this is the more poplar opinion among LLMD's, as well.

It's your health and your care, so I don't think it would be wrong to request abx IF after careful thought that is the path you want to follow.
