Yep, when I have a "flare up", my nerves get really sensitive. I have to move my feet constantly to keep the tingling/numbness down. Right now, my elbow is killing me from typing (this has been going on for WEEKS). I have typed for years, never this issue. It just happens in waves...
I think it's compression of nerves/and or blood vessels or damage, inflammation of them. It's like when your foot falls asleep from sitting on it. However, I also believe we have a problem with our nerve signals so they are far more sensitive to these things. Myself, I have had spine surgery and I also get the dead arms evey night so in this case it is probably nerve damage for me.
