I'm now 53, in 2005 I had a TCRE (transcervical resection of the endometrium) because my periods were so heavy
TCRE is a procedure in which the lining of the uterus is removed (also called resected or ablated) with a wire loop, roller ball or laser. The choice of instrument depends on the preference of the surgeon. The operation is performed using a hysteroscope, an instrument like a telescope which allows the surgeon to see the inside of the uterus. Special instruments can then be passed along the hysteroscope so that surgical procedures can be carried out.
I was taken in as a day case and my periods afterwards were unbelievably light, I stopped having periods around 6 months after and can recommend this op to anyone. I was home at tea time, with light cramps and carried on as normal the next day. I bled lightly for approx 10 days after. I thought it was worth it. Hope this helps.
My cousins both had the Novasure done & they no longer had a period afterwards. I wasn't as lucky when I had mine. I started bleeding for 24 days at a time afterwards. I then opted for a hysterectomy.
Good luck in whatever you decide!
