thank you, I will ask my doctor about clonidine, I looked it up and it did say it is sometimes used for menopausal flushing. How much of a dose do you use?
by: Hot Events not flashes
Please ask your doctor about clonidine. It is an old blood pressure medication that is used for menopausal symptoms. I was on hormones, high dosage, for years, and when I went off, I felt like I could self-combust. My doctor is from Canada and they use clonidine all the time. it has been a life-saver for me.
Thank you Grace, it's good to know someone else gets them longer. I think I need to find a doctor that specializes in this, but it's difficult. I really don't want to be wearing this patch, and now it's not working well, so I need to find new doctor, not sure where to start.
REad a book by DR.Christine Northrup I wish she was still practicing, seems she knows her stuff on this.
Thanks.
I can sympathize. I never had the traditional hot flash. I had what I called hot hours. I'd feel like my inner thermostat was stuck on high. The feeling would come and go without warning. I still occasionally feel that way.
Right now my AC is set at 68, When the rest of the family walks around with their teeth chattering, I'm perfectly comfortable. I tell them to put on a sweater. My daughter was like MOM! It's 92 degrees outside! I'm not wearing a sweater. I said, hey I'm NOT turning the AC up either, so deal. I always tell them they can add layers I can't take anymore off than I have. I wear shorts in the winter.Inside the house of course, but I haven't worn a sweater or a long sleeved shirt in a couple of years.
I've never taken anything for it. I have a real problem with hormone replacement therapy, actually with just about any medications. Just hate to take them. Thankfully at this point I am able to deal with the feeling of being hot. I'm not sure what I'd do if it was unbearable.
I'm afraid I can't give you any advice. Just wanted you to know you're not alone in having lengthy hot "flashes".
Hang in there and hopefully your doctor can come up something else to help you. Or maybe someone else here can give you some advice.
