Pregnancy after miscarriage

Hi there,

I was wondering on Aug 12 I was told I had a miscarriage and my HcG level was 9. But, now its been almost a month and still no sign of AF? Is that normal or is there a possibility I could be pregnant again. Last week, when I wiped there was a tiny bit of pink blood in my discharge so I thought AF was starting but nothing since then? I know taking a test is the best answer here but, I just wanted some opinions.

Thank you,
Amy

Hello Amy,
Have you found out yet, if you are pregnant?
I go to my doctor tomorrow for blood work, to see if it is a new pregnancy or if it's left over hormones. My HPT was a strong positive, the wait is driving me crazy!

I've just had minor spotting. I too know my levels are back down. I just hate the wait.

I had my first miscarriage on April 11, 2011 at 15w2d (baby measured 11w2d).  I had a D&C done the next day.  It took 7 weeks for my levels to drop (had them tested weekly) and I started my period a week later (so 8 weeks post D&C).  During those 8 weeks I had 2 occassions where I bled and thought it was my period, but it wasn't.  My doctor said it was most likely anovulatory bleeding (random uterine bleeding with no ovulation which can vary in length and flow).  I was able to get a + HPT when my levels were as low as an 11.

I had my second miscarriage on August 9, 2011 at 10w3d.  My D&C was performed on August 12th.  I have yet to get my AF as well.  We didn't test my levels this time, but I know they are back down because I can get a negative HPT.  However, I have been taking my temperature every morning and according to that I have not ovulated which is probably why I haven't got a "true period" yet.  But again, last week I had 3 days of bleeding which was most likely more anovulatory bleeding.

Hang in there ladies.  Your AF will come when your body is ready.  Some just take longer to show up.

I've had 2 negative tests. Do you know what your hCG level was after the miscarriage? Mine was 9 on 8/12/11 and still no AF

Hi Amy,
I miscarried on 8/12/11 as well, I had a D&C done, I have not had a period since either, yesterday I had a positive pregnancy test, I'm more confused than ever, I go to the doctor 9/15/11 for blood work, to check the hcg.

Nope, no AF for me. I am irregular though so it could be another couple weeks.

It's terrible that a check up takes a while, isn't it? I don't see why you should have to wait after numerous miscarriages. Congratulations on your healthy little boy though :)

I also had a LOT of stress during early pregnancy and then again towards the end, but honestly can't see it causing a m/c at almost 24 weeks. I feel that my blood issue was not addressed and have asked to see a specialist to determine whether there was anything they could have done.

I have my check up in 5 weeks or so & get the results from the post mortem then as well. Not looking forward to it, but hoping for some answers.

Any sign of AF yet? Nothing still for me. Desperate to do a test but apparently 5 days or so after implantation bleeding before it will show as positive.

Being that you were so far along it may take longer for your levels to go down. I have NO bleeding beside a little bit of spotting last week. They are going to investigate but the wait for the referrel takes a long time. Have you had any check-ups since?

I do have 1 healthy son. He just turned 2 in July. I had no complications with my pregnancy for him. However, he was a c-section because he was breach. 2 different ways (stubborn like his mommy and daddy) from everything I've read I personally can't think of ANY reasons as to why this keeps happening. I have had A LOT of stress during them, but I can't see that causing 3. However, after my first one there was some problems from lack of medical care and I'm wondering if that's what caused the other 2.

I guess compared to a lot of the unfortunate women on here, I can count my blessings see as I do have a child and, I have no problems getting pregnant its just holding on to the pregnancy.

A few in the last year must be so hard to deal with. I'm really sorry to hear that you've ben having such a hard time. Have they given you any idea why they are happening? They investigate after 3 don't they? Do you have any children?

I was in hosp 7 times during the final 4 wks of my pregnancy with bleeding which they couldn't find a cause for. I have a blood clotting disorder which makes me more likely to have a blood clot & can't stop thinking that it had something to do with that. I got a really high temp & docs said I had an infection somewhere but couldn't find it. When my waters broke they said they thought either an infection had caused my membranes to burst, or the membranes bursting had given me an infection. I'm back at the hosp in 5 wks or so for the results of the post mortem to see if there are any answers.

I've been trying to do the temp thing as well as the ov tests but keep forgetting as you have to take it the moment you wake up!

Had some really strong cramps earlier today & had enough blood for there be some in the toilet (tmi, sorry) but then stopped immediately & nothing since. Can't get my head around it all. Hoping & praying to be pregnant again, as I'm sure you are, too.

I'm in Canada. You can request to get your blood levels checked. Its a good way to know when things have gone back to "normal"

I've actually had a few m/c's in the last year. REALLY bad luck I suppose. All my miscarriages have been early though. Between 5-7 weeks. I'm so sorry for your loss, did they tell you why?

I haven't tried ovulation tests yet, but I have ordered some. I'm also going to track my temperature's and keep note of my discharge to get a bit of a better idea. My periods are irregular so, it makes thing a little harder.

Ru in America? I'm in UK & we don't get an HcG reading given to us.

So sorry to hear about all of your bad luck.  Two m/c's within a few months must be so hard to come to terms with. The m/c in Aug was my 1st but I was a day off bein 24 wks so was rly difficult.

You must have gotten pregnant again pretty quick after the m/c in May? Some people say it takes a while for things to get back to normal, but my cycle has always been absolutely perfect every month so I expected things to return to normal quickly.

Have you been using ovulation tests? I've been trying but think they're too much of a guessing game.

Hi Amy,

I've written the post below yours and it sounds like we are in similar situations. I had a miscarriage on 9th Aug & still haven't had AF.

I also had a tiny bit of pinkish discharge last week along with some cramps and thought I was going to get AF but nothing so far....

My friend said she waited almost 8 weeks for AF after m/c but I have everything crossed that I'm pregnant!
