Spotting after 5 weeks of bleeding stoped?

Sorry for the long question...I had a complicated miscarriage.

I induced my miscarriage on 12/24 with Mistoprostol because we had lost the heart beat. I had a terrible reaction to the mistoprostol, the worst my doc had seen, probably because I was 9 wks which is the max you can use mistroprostol and the medication actually caused a flareup in my ulcerative colitis. (the ulcerative colistis has been flared-up for almost 6 weeks still from that pil).

After 2 weeks of bleeding and almost going to the hospital because they thought I was hemorrhaging, I got back to my doctor and they did an ultrasound and said I was clear of pregnancy tissue. The bleeding continued and actually got worst. When the hockey puck sized blood clot came out I saw the doctor again and they wanted me to take methergine to cramp and close my uterus. I really didn't want to take the methergine, since I had such a terrible reaction to the mistroprotol, the last thing I wanted to do was take a cramping pill since I was still suffering from my ulcerative colitis. I decided to hold off in hopes that the bleeding would stop naturally but the bleeding got worst, and my ulcerative colitis got worst.

Then just about when I was going to take the metergine I passed a hard, smelly cherry sized piece of tissue. HORRAY! I could immediately tell the bleeding was going to stop. I could just feel it. So after 5 weeks it finally stopped.

THE QUESTION:
The bad news, one week exactly after no bleeding at all, I started a light brownish spotting. What is this? Could it be some old blood or my period? Honestly, I wonder how I stay so positive. 5 friends told me last week they were pregnant, it seems to be all around, and just when i thought I was getting better on the road to recovery...the bleeding comes back!

I am so sorry you had such a difficult time.  I guess I am glad I decided not to do the medication route with mine.  I opted for the d&c last week because I am supposed to be leaving for FL next week and I REALLY need this vacation now and I showed absolutely no signs of miscarrying after knowing that the baby had not been alive for almost two weeks....anyway...I know the feeling about the pregnant people.  They are everywhere...lol.  JK...maybe it will rub off on us soon?  I found out my bf was pregnant the day I had the d&c and did that ever send me into a tailspin.  It made it worse that she actually was upset when I told her I was preg. because she had been ttc for longer than I had.  Well, she now got her wish....and I know she feels bad and I just cant face her right now.  I told her I needed space.   I'm trying to heal emotionally day by day but I still end up crying every day....

If it is AF don't be surprised if it's a little worse than before you took the misoprostol.  I am on my 3rd cycle and it is worse than any I've had.
It was exactly like labor pains...my Dr. gave me the pills and sent me home said use them in the morning because it'll take about 8 hours to start and then I wouldn't be up all night.  She told me to take Motrin for the pain. HA!  After 3 days of terrible labor pains I finally called the office and got a call from the Dr. on call, who said "Oh Honey...those are nasty pills...I will call a pain prescription in for you or if you go to the ER they will give you some IV pain killers"  I was so pi$$ed at the other Dr. for pretty much downplaying the whole experience.  DH was by the drug store so he picked picked up the vicodin for me and the 4th morning was when my FIL drove me in...then the first Dr (who said Motrin) had the nerve to tell me the throwing up and passing out was probably just a reaction to the Vicodin!  I have taken it before and never had a problem.  It was a reaction to the 4th day of being in labor.  Unfortunately I am in a very rural area and they are the only close practice and right by the hospital.  Luckily they have a few Dr.s so I can request not to see her again.  I told her the last time I had pain like that I had a beautiful baby girl to show for it.  (and an epidural...)
I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time with it too...I am glad neither of us had to have a d&c on top of that.  It's nice to know I wasn't just imagining the agony.  I hope you never have to go through that again and soon you have a happy healthy pregnancy.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually measured 9 weeks, they said the heart must have stopped beating just that day or the day before my ultrasound. Kind of odd I have to say. The only reason I had the ultrasound was to make sure I had absorbed the twin that didn't make it past 6 weeks.

My reaction to misoprostol was similar to yours throwing, up, passing out, fever, the chills, you name it. It was basically a mini labor. I would never suggest that to anyone. I think if you are less that  6 weeks then maybe it would help.

The doc gave me a pregnancy test which was negative, but didn't test my HCG levels (at least they didn't tell me). Today, I started bleeding a lot more, enough for a tampon, basically like a AF. I am cramping a lot on my left side and in my back. I didn't really cramp that much before when I got AF,  although once in a while I would get back cramps. Perhaps this is a period....I'm sure it will either get worst, or it will turn out to be my period which would be a positive thing since we want to TTC soon.

I'm sorry for your loss and I am sorry you have had an especially hard time physically with it.  I took misoprostol also...at 12 weeks I had a blighted ovum that didn't measure past 9 weeks so I was able to use it.  I also had a bad reaction...my FIL drove me to the Dr. office 4 days after I used it and I started throwing up on the way and they had to carry me back into a room because I was pretty much passing out.  (The office is in the hospital, so it didn't really matter where I went).  They took me right in for an u/s and when I was in the bathroom taking my clothes off I passed something the size of a mouse...and I immediately felt better.  When I had the u/s it showed everything cleared out and I continued to bleed for a week, but not as long as you.  It is terrible, nasty stuff, and I don't think I would ever go that route again.  It sounds to me like leftover blood that hadn't made it's way out yet, but it's been a while since you actually passed the pregnancy it could very well be a period.  I know it's difficult and frustrating not knowing whats happening, especialy when you hear the news from so many friends that they are pregnant.
Did your Dr. follow your HCG levels down below pregnancy levels or did they just go by u/s?  If you when your levels dipped below 5 it would be easier to pinpoint whether it's possible for this to be a cycle.
