contraceptive pills after D&C procedure

I have recently undergone D&C procedure during my 8th week pregnancy, when it was discovered that the baby it not grow at all. Immediately after the procedure My doctor has prescribed me pain killers for 2 days+antibiotics(for 5 days) + oral contraceptive pills which i'am supposed to take on the 5th day of my periods for 21 days continously for 3 months without fail. And only after the 3 periods to start trying to get pregnant. Is it harmful to start trying for a baby immediately after stopping the pills ? for how long does the effects of the pills remain in our system? Pls clarify

hi friend,

Thankyou for your support and input to my query. My doc very clearly told me not to have another baby immediately, to atleast let the body recover say in another 3 months time.So i guess that the pills would'nt stay in my system for long if i use it for a short period (3 months) as prescribed by my doctor.

Thankyou once again and God bless you.Glad to know one woman understands what the other goes thru.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(  I had a missed miscarriage and ended up with a D&C as well.  All my dr gave me was pain meds (that I only took one pill).

Do you have any idea why your dr gave you birth control for 3 months?

From my experience the amount of time your on it will determine how long it takes.  I was on it for several years and it took 2 months to wear off (we did try during that time), but I felt pregnant the entire two months so I knew it wasn't out of my system.  With only taking it for 3 months it will probably not be build up in your system so you most likely have a chance.  You do not need to wait to try after going off Birth Control.

Also, for a D&C, you only need to wait one cycle to start trying, unless there are other health issues, so I hope everything is ok!

I'm sorry for your loss. Typically after stopping the bc pills it can take a cycle for our bodies to get back to normal. However the length of time in which a woman has ben on bc pills can affect the length of time it takes also. I would speak more with your dr. It is hard to give you a definate answer since every woman and situation is different. I hope it's really straight forward for you. Take care and best wishes to you.
