MS symptoms, but no diagnosis

I am a 62 year old man.  Other than being slightly overweight, I'm in good health and keep active.  This past December I was getting into the car and got a sharp spasm in my left flank (it's still there.) By morning my left leg went number and I could hardly walk.  I went to see my doctor and he immediately arranged for a neuro eval and I was subsequently hospitalized for a stroke.  MRI showed no irregularities and a stroke was ruled out.  While in the hospital I developed foot drop on my left foot and could not walk.  I was transferred to rehab and was back up on my feet in a week but now need a cane.  MRI's showed no lesions.  There is early spinal stenosis and a disc bulge, but neither would be causing my symptoms.  Nerve and muscle tests normal except for hyper reflexes on the numb leg.  Awaiting spinal fluid results but preliminary results have been negative.  Every now and then I get a tingle in hands - but is has been going away.  Yesterday I developed "floaters" in my left eye.  Tested negative for all diseases (Lyme, West Nile, HIV, syphilis, etc.)  All blood work normal - B-12, D, etc. with the exception of slightly low copper.  Left leg still numb and half my waist from belly button to spine feels like a I have a 10 pound water balloon attached to my side.  Really sounds like MS - but could it be something else?

With out the MRI evidence it would be hard to have a neurologist think MS. It does sound like something is going on.

Hi,
I understand how strange and frightening this change can be, but often when nothing shows up on MRI then it can take some time to figure this out. I started with tingling in one leg and nerve pain also, since then a lot have happened but just now I´m maybe getting a diagnoses after 5 years of wondering and I probably do not have MS, just a great mimic of it. But of course it very often takes shorter time. Did they do EMG test? I hope you have a good neuro to help you. Let us know how the Spinal test turns out.
Best regards,
Dagun
