Neuro Appt today...starting Gilenya

Well my neuro wants me to try Gilenya and asked if I was ok with that and I told him we can try it if he thinks it is best. At least no more injections. The only thing I am unsure of is if my insurance will pay for it. Guess I will find out soon enough.

I have to go have an eye exam and some blood work done then I will be starting it if insurance approves. He gave me on Tizanadine for my back spasms. Other than that all went well. The only problems I have been having are trouble focusing and the back spasms so hopefully the opthamologist can tell me if my eye problems are due to MS or just cause I am getting old hahaha.

Have a great day everyone!

Good luck with Gilenya, Paula.  It sounds like between your neuro and your PCP, you'll be in good hands.  Keep us up to date on this.

I am still working on reading through everything he gave me about Gilenya. I am going for all the blood work and the eye test as soon as they schedule it.

I am also going to make an appt with my PCP to talk with her about it too. She will be the one I will go to for monitoring my liver enzymes because she is much closer and my neuro said that would be fine.

I know Gilenya carries risks but don't all the medicines that are out there for MS, some more than others but I am hoping this works for me so that I don't have to change DMD's again, if it doesn't work for me then I guess I will switch again until I find something that does work unless none work then I will be on my own, which I am hoping doesn't happen.

Have you asked about being observed in the hospital a little longer than they usual?  Just to be sure?  (Sorry, I am a worry-wort.)

I hope all goes well with getting approved for and started on Gilenya!  My insurance just approved Tysabri for me.  It wasn't fun, but hopefully your transition is much easier.  I actually had to switch to bifocals my last eye appt.  Oh the fun in getting older!  LOL!
