When a Doctor is on YOUR side

Hi all,

Last summer I started searching for answers to whatever has been making me feel ill for so long.  I still do not have a specific answer however I am now seeing a doctor who is getting close to figuring it out.

We all know a doctor’s demeanor becomes dismissive.  Most of us have been through it, and personally I think it takes a strong person to press on for an answer, and this forum has a boatload of strong people!  I keep saying, it’s not that I WANT to be sick, I AM sick and I want to fix it.

With that said, it is such an overwhelming relief when a doctor finally sees something, starts connecting the dots, realizes there is something wrong, and is determined to figure it out.  It’s like finally having a doctor on your team, working with you for the answers.

It is SO important to have all your own medical records, take them with you to your appointments, and keep pressing for answers.

To all the undiagnosed, don’t give up.  There are answers out there.

Wanna

What an excellent reminder to all those who are in still in search of "that" just RIGHT docto or those ANSWERS..  Good doctors are certainly hard to come by sweetheart.  I am so glad YOU have found that special person.  It really helps to have some rapport with your doctor, where you can literally go to them and tell them ANYTHING.

I am a lucky woman in that I have found that someone in my Primary Care physician (it's a woman) and now the woman I have found to be my Neuro.  My Neuro is extremely compassionate but needs a bit of a nudge when it comes to making sure that I get a thorough neurological exam EACH and EVERY time I go in her office.  She takes so much of what I have to say as absolute fact, that she said that she doesn't feel she needs to "verifymy symptom complaint," by physical exam.  I don't know if I should be grateful that she is that 'believing' in me...or be upset with her that she doesn't do that full exam each and every time.

Each time that I have had to go to a teaching hospital in the past, before I found this Neuro; if I was taken care of by a medical student that showed compassion and caring towards me, that I would tell them to never lose that "trait" as they make their way through medical school.  Then I explain WHY it's so important to remember that.

You are so right, as I say and you said... "don't give up."  There ARE good doctor's out there and there ARE answers.

Thank you for bringing up this important subject.  Maybe one person on this Forum, even if it's just one, remembers what you said, "Don't give up...," they will be inspired and comforted that they WILL find answers in that right person.

Make it a GREAT DAY dear lady,
Heather
