sharp eye pain

Good morning all.

I began to have eye pain in my right eye on Sun morning.   At first i thought I had someting in my eye, but nothing was there.

I tried warm rags. no help.  It is a stabbing pain in the inner corner and also behind and on top of the eye.

sometimes it burns (like fatigue)

on monday, it started to hurt if I bent my head down (like my eye was going to fall out)

last night, when I went to bed, the pain was severs and spread down my cheekbones to my jaw.

I had to sleep almost sitting up.

Don't know if its pink eye, or optic neuritis or a crazy sinus thing.  going to dr later.

has anyone had anything like this?

went to the dr and she said I have inflammation in the eye most likely caused by an auto-immune disease. she gave me prednisone drops.

Dear MamiJ, welcome to the medhelp forum. Severe, boring eye pain, which becomes worse on bending, cannot be accounted for by viral conjunctivitis. This could be iritis or inflammation of the colored part seen in the eye or episcleritis, which is the inflammation of episclera, layer covering the white portion of the eye. It could be associated with herpes zoster, rheumatoid arthritis or sjogren’s syndrome. You will need to get an autoimmune disease panel screen. This could be the presenting symptom of a connective tissue disorder. Your ophthalmologist should examine your eye in detail. Usually symptoms resolve on their own but topical steroid drops hasten recovery. Migraines and sinusitis can also cause orbital eye pain. You are welcome with any clarifications. Take care.
