Another abnormal test

Hi again,  I have had my last test with this current neurologist today.

Interestingly but not surprisingly, he (because his technician failed to turn up) did a nerve conduction test which was also abnormal.   This abnormal test now sits along with my abnormal MRIs x 2 , EEG, ENG, and neuro-otology.

The only test done which is normal was  my carotid dopplers which I reluctantly agreed to.  I refused to undertake a cardiac CT as I have a cardiologist who looks after me and conducted cardiac testing earlier this year with no abnormalities.

My nocturnal myoclonic jerking which was extremely viloent and disruptive to my sleep has gradually faded away now.  It was present for about 2 1/2 months.   This is the third or fourth time I have experienced this in the last 12 years.   The first time I experienced this was also at the same time that I had experienced the eye problems, although in the left eye that time.

I have no answers from my doctor.......   He initially told me that they had to rule out things like JCD (!!!) and  dementia.  He changed from that to MS, to cardiac, today mentioned carpal tunnel and insulin resistance (my endocrinologist checked me this year).  This neuro is all over the place like a mad woman's breakfast!!!!

He gave me a copy of the letter to my GP and it was interesting to note that he said he hasn't covered the right facial/ear and eye issues, which apart from the myoiclonic jerking, were my main complaints.

Do I sit on all this or follow it up with a different neurologist?    Would be interested in hearing what you all think.

regards   P

Thanks for taking time to answer my question.

I posted this one in MS as well as although the dr thinks my lesions on MRI are ischaemic the radiologist reports them as "Although not numerous the distribution and morphology of these white matter hyperintensities is not typical for microvascular ischaemic aetiology".

I think I picked a dodo when I picked my neurologist!!!  As you can see all my other tests were abnormal as well as the MRIs.

I have everything documented and I will get my MRIs on disc and trot along to find another  doctor...... I would have preferred him to say 'I don't know" and move on than give me such diverse and contradicting answers.

Thanks for taking time to reply.

You need to get a copy of all the reports from your test and make sure you get disc of mris and cts. Find another neurologist take him all your records for the apt and get a second opinion. I will tell you some neurological deseases are hard to detect. I have found this out from experience but the best thing you can do is keep records of all your test and take with you to every appointment  and try and stay as knowledgeable as possible about what is going on. i know first hand it is frustrating when you don't get direect answers. My nueroligist told me I had painful peripheral neuropathy. Which he tested me for but he told the test may come out negative even though he feels i have it. My test did come out positive but test don't always show everything. You need a good informed doctor. Make sure you search on the internet for reviews to find a good doctor in your area. This can make the difference between find a good doctor that cares and and *******!! Hope this helps.
