Gee, my other posts just showed up -- and the forum seems to have suddenly shifted back to the old format. Boy it's getting time consuming to use this website, ain't it?
I gave a comment here and the post shows I commented but I don't see it. Maybe it will show up some day but the website seems to be having a host of problems. Basically, carbs aren't all created equal, and calories are not your best source of tracking weight. Calories are one factor, but how well and how quickly you metabolize your food into sugar for energy is more determinative, as foods that turn quickly into sugar have to be burned off quickly or they store quickly as fat. A piece of white bread will do that very fast, but it won't have as many calories as a piece of salmon but you won't get fat eating salmon. As for carbs, simple carbs such as white flour and carbs are the ones to watch out for; complex carbs are fine. The largest category of food for health we should be eating are vegetables, but they are carbs, so you don't want to avoid carbs, you want to cut down on simple carbs. So because fleshy fruit contains a lot of sugars, you eat those with moderation, but fruits that don't contain that sugar, such as quinoa or buckwheat or squash or tree nuts or seeds you can eat more often.
If you're having that much of a problem then do the Atkins Diet.
