Help with Supplements

Can anyone advise me which vitamins, minerals, or other supplements are anti-inflammatory? I had to get off inhaled steroids for emphysema and need natural replacements. So far I have come up with vitamin B5, MSM, and mullein extract. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Be more specific and I can help more, but let's assume you're just trying to reduce inflammation in your lungs.  MSM won't do that, it mostly applies to joints.  Mullein is a lung decongestant, and is usually used in formulas to reduce congestion.  Planetary Formulas makes a good mullein combo.  However, what I don't know is if you take it all the time whether it will eventually stop working.  You can go to the company website and ask and they should be able to answer the question; the company is owned by two of the foremost herbalists in the world.  Freeze dried nettles is a good antihistamine; Eclectic Institute makes the best one.  Combinations of bromelain, quercitin and vitamin C makes a good antihistamine as well.  I use one from Nature's Life called Bromelain Sinus Ease; I use it partly for my sinuses, but also as an anti-inflammatory for bad discs.  Source Naturals also makes a good one.  There are many good lung decongestants along with mullein -- pleurisy root might be particularly helpful.  Now, if you just wanted general anti-inflammatories, such as for arthritis or muscle aches and such, then you can move on to turmeric, MSM, ginger, sea mussel, and a host of other remedies.  Arnica Montana is a homeopathic anti-inflammatory.  There's a host of stuff out there.  Try picking up a book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing -- it should give you more ideas.  Good luck.  I'd also take a good refrigerated probiotic from a good health food store; steroid use, particularly prolonged, kills off the beneficial flora in the intestinal tract and also attacks the joints, causing increased inflammation.  Kind of a double-edged sword there.
