I am 10 days out from a hip pinning surgery. I am 50 years old and have been an avid runner my entire life. Three months ago toward the end of a run I felt like my right knee was going to totally give out from under me. After I got home I sat down and cooled down and when I stood up I was limping. The next morning I wasn't liming when I walked, so I tried to run and within one block I couldn't...so I walked home and haven't run since. Two weeks after the initial incident...about mid-May...I went to see an orthopedist and he told me that I had tendinitis. I dutifully went to PT...took ibuprofen and did my exercises. We had a three week trip planned with our girls to Europe so I went...limping and hobbling along. Several weeks after returning from Europe it was clear that none of the prescribed activities were helping so I went to see the orthopedist again. He then ordered an MRI which showed a hip fracture and upon further review the fracture...which at that point was a stress fracture...had been apparent in the initial x-ray. So within 2 days of the MRI I had my hip pinned and 10 days later here I am. My doctor said that non weight bearing no driving for 6-8 weeks. So far post op things seem to have gone pretty smoothly but I have been really down and weepy. I am used to being really active and I am afraid that I will never be able to get back to running, biking and hiking and just enjoying being outside and moving. I am already so restless and I still have weeks to go and I'm very stressed about the future! Has anyone been through this? Any advice? Thanks!
