To all Illinois sisters

I told you that I would let you know more when I found out, well here it is. Southern Illinois Medical School has agreed to accept the program STS: Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Womens Lives. They are now looking for at least 6 women who are ovarian cancer survivors to get this program off the ground. These women would go to the class rooms of medical students and talk to them about ovarian cancer.
We have discussed this before. There are so many of us whose treatment was delayed due to the fact that our Drs just were not up on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer so we wasted precious time being treated for other ailments. If you are interested please get in touch with me.
  Love Chris

dian,
I do not know all of the details as of yet. They are trying to find enough women interested to go ahead and see if they can get the program off the ground.
I am 3 hours away from Springfield and am considering going up there to help see if we can get women in the area interested. Hopefully if they see that someone is will to come 3 hours, they will be more apt to show some interest.
The woman from New York that contacted me is the creater and directer of the STS program. I hope that she is eventually able to get this program off the ground across the country.
I will let you know more as I find it out.

I have been going to the Univ  of Iowa on a similar program for over a year now, so little time is spent in class for interns and nurses on the total picture of cancers,  I was able to give them a blow by blow sense of Leslee's progress throughout her illness, I dwelt on the wasted time spent getting a correct dx then took them through the next two years of chemo and related issues.  I would give my half hour talk and then open up to questions, as long as it was something I had first hand knowledge of I was ok, then the questions I didn't know I would research and answer the next time, there were no tests, I used Leslee's records, those she did on her own and those she had from the different doctors.  I always recommended that they come in to the forum and read the first hand reports from you ladies. Now I am planning just on speaking about recognizing the early symptoms and  always listening to the patient, do not make snap dx and waste time.  I stress that time is the most importent part of OVCA. I am contacting our community college here, they now have a 2 year  nurses course.  I am interested in getting the nurses  to listen also, actually , most nurses see more of the patient time than the doctor does. If they work with  a good doctor , the doctor will listen to suggestions from them.

Please give me the details.  I am here in northwest Iowa but if I can help I certainly will.  Still, it is a long drive......I am 5 hours from Dubuque.....how does that measure up to where you are?  Anyway....touch base when you can and educate me!
I think it is wonderful you are so involved.
Peace.
