My wife is 26 with an cyst 10cm

Good Morning! My wife is 26 years and has had abdominal pains for at least the last three years. We have gone to the emergency room probably 4 times in the last six months because my job currently doesn't offer insurance. My insurance is scheduled to start in 2 months, but two weeks ago the emergency room told her that the cyst was 10cm on one side and 8cm on the other. During the entire time we haven't heard about ovarian cancer until her doctor's appointment on yesterday. The doctor performed the p-125 test, but he stated that it might take two weeks to get the results. I am very concerned because again my wife is a vibrant, young 26-year old female. The doctor also stated that if it is cancerous, surgery would have to be immediate and I'm concerned because again if it is cancer, what are the possibilities that it could have spread. I really appreciate your forum because it has provided me a way to at least garner more information.

I agree with Simply Star but would recommend that your wife see a gynecologic oncologist (gyn/onc) if there is the slightest suspicion of cancer.  They are specially trained in how best to operate and treat gynecological cancers.  If there is cancer, they can stage and debulk during the initial operation, and they know the precautions to take to prevent problems. Typically, if the gyn suspects cancer he will refer your wife to a gyn/onc.  Also, CA-125 is not a marker for all ovarian cancers.  Mine came back at 6, the gyn/onc wanted to wait so my gyn removed the cysts and ovary and I had to have a second surgery when it was found to be malignant. But, as Simply Star mentioned, most cysts are benign and hopefully that will be the case with your wife. Best wishes, Chris P

The cysts are of a size that need attention, they probably need to be removed very soon, the CA125  is not that accurate for the pre menopausal woman,  evidently a scan of some type was done to visualize the ovarys, to see that the cysts were indeed present. 99% of all cysts are benign, emergency rooms are fine but what your wife needs  is to see a doctor experienced in the GYN problems she is facing. Do not let someone just do surgery on guesswork, if you need to wait for the insurance to kick in, I would suggest a visit to a GOOD GYN  to see just what he/she would suggest.
