Ovarian Cyst and Unilocular anechoic 3 cm cyst, free fluid in pelvis

Hello, I"m wondering if anyone can shed any light on what an ultrasound I had recently might mean, what questions would be wise to ask my doctor, and what tests I should ask about having.

I would like to have another baby if possible fairly soon, so am not too keen on any procedures that could harm my fertility unless they are absoultely necessary.

Last June I had  a baby.

My postpartum bleeding continued (light in volume) for about 10 weeks. I then had a bad cramp, so went to ER and they pulled something out of me that had been blocking my cervix. I'd say about a golf ball sized mass, which Ithought was retained products but the dr said it could have been a blood clot. They didn't biopsy it. I took antibiotics and the bleeding stopped.  I had hemmoraged right after the birth and I don't think the uterus contracted like it's supposed to.

In January I had  a physical and the blood test came back with a low thyroid. I think my tsh was around 14. It's now just under 5, which is still high for me, but at least it's coming down (due to herbs and progesterone cream).  It used to be less than 2 for me.

I've been tired a lot, not surprising with the low thyroid.

Toward the end of April, hoping I was pregnant, I went off of my thyroid herbs (didn't realize I should have done so gradually, so maybe it shocked my system??), and around the same time had weird bleeding. At this time, I ovulated one day, was really sick that evening (like food poisoning but worse), and ovulated  the next day, then the day after that, bled. I have never had a period the day after ovulating.  I started taking my thyroid herbs again.  The bleeding continued for about 19 days (some days were just spotting, other days were like the heavy days when I have a period).  I took some antibiotics and the bleeding stopped.  THen about 10 days after the bleeding stopped (and about a month after the prior ovulation, ie, toward end of May), I ovulated.  Pap smear (mid may) was normal and blood tests (mid may) showed TSH of just under 5.

Due to the irregular bleeding, I asked for a pelvic ultrasound.

The u/s was done at the end of may and the results indicate:
- uterus is slightly bulky, spanning 10.3 cm
-no masses are identified, however the endometrial stripe measures .4 cm, within normal limits, but some minimal hyperechoic nodularity along the posterior margin of the stripe are noted. Report says "likely" of little clinical significance.
-cervix closed
- within left ovary, a simple unilocular anechoic cystic structure measures 3.0 cm. No sinister features. This finding enlarges the left ovary to 24 cc in volume.  (3-dimensional dimensions were not given)
- right ovary is not enlarged.
-small amount of free fluid in pelvis is present, which is nonspecific.
-no adnexal masses are present
- both kidneys are unremarkable, as is bladder.

- no definitive findings can be made
- recommends follow up u/s in 6 weeks.

I've had a dull ache in my abdomen area, and would say things feel "different", or maybe "not quite right"
I have no idea what all this means.......or where to start. I like to be hands-on with my health.

Any help would be most appreciated!!

Thank you so much for your response (and sorry about the long post).... I've been quite worried, since I've read that ov.can. can go undetected for a long time, and once detected can be serious.  I hope everything is ok.  My heart goes out to the many great women whose posts I've read, all looking for answers and not always getting them, or getting them very easily.

If men had these kinds of problems, I can't help but wonder, how different would 'the system' be in its responsiveness to them.

Anyway, I'll keep praying as I'm sure many other women out there are too!

Hey there, kid.  As far as I can tell there is nothing alarming in the report.  It appears your medical team just wants to check you out again in 6 weeks.
It is good you are continuing to follow through since things feel "different" or "not quit right".  Smart woman.....keep listening to your body.  After all, you know your body best!
Please do keep us posted.
Peace.
