Hey there, kid. Nothing new to add.....just wanted you to know that someone who is sitting in the frozen tundra of NW Iowa is thinking about you. Hospitals stink....in more than one way! I hope you guys are able to get to NYC really soon and that you paint the town red! Take care and just keep putting one foot in front of the other....
Happy Birthday !
I am glad you have Luke in your life......tell him "hi" for me...he's lucky to have you.
Peace.

Have a nice juicy steak...one of my faves!!! ;) Love ya, Gia
Deandra,
I am keeping you in my prayers that your counts will come up and you are home, packing and ready to leave tomorrow. That is my birthday wish for you.
I am sorry you couldn't leave as planned, but like you siad, New York just wasn't ready yet. They needed a few extra days to prepare for you!
And should you have to choose, pick the horse ****. The horse is a bigger animal so there for must be better for you. But don't worry, you will be eating steak in no time, and after horse ****, it will taste even that much better.
I hope I made you smile. Look out New York, cause here she comes!
Love Chris
You have a wonderful time in NYC with your wonderful man. Judy
Hey, you could ask for some whipped cream on that hospital jello. Yeah, not the best way to spend your birthday. You can just celebrate extra hard and long once you get out. You deserve a birthday week. Rest up.
Irene
I am so sorry you are having to spend your birthday in the hospital but I am glad you are going to get to go on your trip. I hope you and Luke have a great time and are able to forget about this cancer stuff for awhile. Happy Birthday
Linda
I knew there was a reason I woke up so darn early. Deandra, continue to keep your spirit and strength. You're absolutely right, NYC needs a couple of more days to get ready for your whirlwind. Happy Birthday and God Bless.
Karen
I don’t think NYC was ready for a fighter of my magnitude…not just yet anyway. Sigh…I’m still in the hospital. Unfortunately when they checked my blood counts this morning, they were still quite low. I had to be given another blood transfusion. I asked if they could screen the blood I was given to make sure the person donating was a fighter like Mike Tyson, and had genes like Angelina Jolie. It couldn’t hurt. I’ve had throbbing headaches causing me to A) throw up and B) request that all sharp objects be out of reach for fear I would use them. Dr. Fleagle ordered an MRI and thankfully, it showed I had a sinus infection. Why am I thankful? NO INTERNAL BLEEDING or signs of progression to the brain. The plan is to be released tomorrow or Sunday provided that my blood counts are higher and/or no signs of further infection or fever. We are still going to NYC; we just had to push it back to Monday. Sadly, our tickets could not be changed. Well, we could change them but with the fees and new flight prices, it was cheaper to just purchase new tickets. UGH!! Luke said it was a small price to pay, his exact words were ‘I don’t care how much the tickets are, I am taking you to NYC for your birthday!’ Did I mention how great he is? Sunday is my actual birthday, and he had this whole night set up complete with dinner at a fancy steak restaurant and Broadway show afterwards…but it looks like I may be in this hospital celebrating the big 29. I looked at the hospital dinner menu and my choices were dog sh!t or horse sh!t…DELISH! Ok, done with the pity party – I will be in NYC on Monday and that’s all that matters. Thank you for all the prayers ladies!! I need all the support I can get. Love, Deandra
AH .. New York ... I pray you have a wonderful weekend in the Big Apple. Judy
PS: Happy Birthday
Deandra,
I join the others in prayer that you will be home and out of the hospital by today. And hopefully you will be feeling much better. Chemo can take so much out of you, esp when it is something so harsh as Gemzar. So hopefully the transfusion has everything leveled out again so you do not feel quite so bad.
If it is any consolation at all, I did find that the longer I was on Gemzar, that the horrid side effects did seem to ease off some.
Praying that you are home, packing and getting ready to head for New York. And that you will have a wonderful birthday tomorrow.
Love Chris
I would also like to joing ur prayer group for Deandra.. KEEP UR HEAD UP GIRL
Deandra,
I too am hoping and praying that you will be out by Friday and ready for your trip. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed.....I hope all goes well...Love, Dawnlyn
I am encouraged by your strength. I have not been able to work a day since diagnosis. Here you are able to go to work even on chemo. It is not just because you are young. It is because you are so strong. Love, Marie
Deandra - Hope you make to the big apple....we would love to see you here and enjoying yourself....hey, if you need anything while you are here...remember you have a friend in NYC!!!!!
Hoping you are feeling better everyday.
Pam

Keeping everything crossed for you .
Love Angie
How did I know there would be a prayer circle for me on the forum even though I had not posted an update?!?! I have wonderful friends like Gia who reads that I am in the hospital and immediately posts a prayer circle in my honor. It's exactly what I needed! Thank you Gia. . I was admitted on Tuesday because my blood counts had dipped dangerously low, requiring a blood transfusion. I did start the new chemo on Jan 7th, and had the 2nd infusion on Jan 14th. Unfortunately, I have not handled it well. It started with a cough/cold/flu on Jan 10th, and continued to escalate until I was so sick, I couldn’t make it through one of my color clients at the salon. When I went in for blood work, they saw how low my counts were and immediately admitted me to the hospital for the transfusion, IV antibiotics, chest scan, and a few other tests. My chest scan came out clear, thank God! I had the transfusion Tuesday and have been receiving IV antibiotics every 8 hours. I am supposed to be leaving to NYC for my birthday on Jan 24th. Luke planned this trip for us months ago, and it is supposed to be my birthday present. Dr. Fleagle is aware of this trip and is trying to do everything in his power to get me out of here by Friday night. The concern is that my counts won’t be high enough, or they will take me off of the antibiotics too soon causing another infection. I am very upset by this. If you all remember, the last time I went on vacation (Hawaii) I was in the ER room the first day due to the painful rashes and blistering of my feet due to chemo side effects. Why does this have to happen days before my trip?!? Please pray for me that I will be out of this hospital by Friday feeling better and ready to hit the big apple. I’m keeping a positive mind. No one wants to see me in here past Friday…it won’t be a pretty sight. Remember my colorful language?? Enough said. As far as the chemo, I will still be receiving the same drugs, but they will be lower dosages. The low blood counts are a result of the chemo, not cancer progression. Gemzar and Carboplat - not an easy combo, I'll tell you that!
Oh Jan, I see now what you went through when you were in and out of the hospital with the Gemzar!!!!
I want to thank you for all of your support, well wishes, prayers, and thoughts. You all are an amazing group of sisters - I love you all!! D
Joining in the circle. All my positive energy coming your way. You are one of the strongest people I have 'met' on this forum and I believe you will continue your fight. I know your friends and family will not let you get down. Hugs, Maggie
Deandra, we are all praying for you. Keep your spirits up and know that you are cared for and thought about often during this difficult time.
