The Today Show

Did a segment this morning on genetics of Breast and Ovarian Cancer.  They mentioned Ovarian Cancer numerous times through out the segment and one of the woman that went through testing did so because her mother was an Ovarian Cancer survivor.

Missed the segment but will look at the link.  I am BRCA1 positive-Breast Ca at 39 now 11 yrs later, Ov Stage IIIc.  Two daughters-one positive, one negative.  Positive one is 24 yrs old, will have double mastectomy next yr and all children by age 29.  I am sick  over this but at least her odds will be much lower with preventative measures.  As far as myself, I am scared out of my wits.  I do not know what happens to you with this disease.  So far, I have had the debulking/hysterectomy and 6 rounds of carbo/tax.  CA-125 is now down to 10.2 and scans are clear.  Last treatment was in July.  I have gained so much weight, was afraid it was ascites, but it was only me!  Glad for fat this time!  Please, I ask for your prayers for both my daughters (one feels guilty b/c she is negative) and for me too.  More meltdowns than I care to mention......Thanks for allowing me to share :)

Saw this as well.  So happy to hear Ovarian linked with Breast.  I think there should be a new ribbon .. half pink and half teal .. for all women.  Judy

I saw the segment.  She had many members of your mothers family with breast cancer too.  I saved the tape because I am BRCA1 and realize my son and daughter will need to be tested.  I hate that but at the same time as the second young lady said at least she knows.  I would have loved to know before the big C strikes.  The second girl was 25 and had mastectomies because being in the 85% risk is tough  she still will need exams but is now in the 5% risk.  and she can have her ovaries monitored until she is done having children and then as my doctor already told my daughter the ovaries will have to go.  Knowledge is power.
Great you brought up the segment Miss NYC lady, thanks
Laurel
