hi i know when i took ceramics in college for several years that talc is often used in glaze and clay formuals - and years ago we were not that careful with the use of chemicals and ingrediants being used in the studios. not wearing masks or gloves and often eating lunch while working with the chemicals-
I have heard that talc shouldn't be used on babies because it could damage lungs. I have also read that they believe the talc on surgical gloves etc could contribute to adhesions and other problems during surgery. Me myself, well I believe some women are just lucky to go through their lives having normal periods etc, and then those of us that just cop the lot. Out of 4 girls in the family, I am the only one that like my mother copped all the health problems, JOY.............
My guess is that most older women had talcum powder used on them by their mothers when they were babies -- and may have used scented talc as adults as well.
In the 70s, doctors told new mothers not to use talc on their babies because it's ground fine, like asbestos, and it could cause the same kind of issues that asbestos does. They suggested cornstarch instead, I believe. Nowadays, new moms seem to be using creams instead of powders.
I guess what I'm suggesting is that it's too late to change your history. Ovca is pretty rare, especially compared to lung cancer, so I won't be guilt-tripping my mother!
Sounds like an MSDS book. We had to get all the MSDS sheets for the medications and chemicals we use at work. I do believe they're found online.
hi thank you - i heard the R..N across the street talking about how they think there could be a connection- it seems that its not heard enough - or maybe i just haven't read enough about it- i have spent so much time - when i was first diag asking myself what did i do that caused this - all those years working with chemicals in a glaze lab or paintiing all the chemicals one exposes onesself to-
household cleaners- paint stripers, etc spray paints, not until recently were there any warning to artists and art students of the dangers of the matericals plastics etc that were being used- there a great book out from osha not sure if its available to anyone or just union s and company's it lists all chemicals and the effects of the chemicals, its a small soft bound book- about 6 inches long and 3 to 4 inches tall- and its been out for 10 to 15 years -it would scare anyone.not just chemicals used in industry but chemical s used in households- etc.should be required reading-i lost my copy -thank you again sv
my father was a commerical artist-all the years of using varnish's air brush- etc, art materials has been known to cause liver tumors, and liver cancer- which he died of,
Hi,
It has been advised that women do not use talcum powder , studies have shown that it can travel through the female reproductive tract and end up in the Ovary causing Ovarian Cancer.
The studies did state that this could take many years to occur but reccommend that women avoid using talc in intimate areas or anywhere near.
I hope this helps.
