My bowels had problems returning to normal after all my surgeries.  My Dr said to take Milk of Magnesia everyday and it helped greatly.
I was bruised badly w/ my 1st and 3rd Lap but my 2nd and 4th - no bruises.  I guess it just depends how much moving around they do in there.  Feel better soon!

Sorry I wasn't more clear about this. I am going but it's like a "tortoise", very little and difficult to pass. My surgery was almost 2 weeks ago; I see the gyno tomorrow. I always drink a lot of fluids. I did use stool softeners the first few days. My post-surg instructions said no Metamucil because it could cause a blockage. So I've been eating a big bowl of Shredded Wheat with bran each day, 2 big glasses of Plum Smart (tastes better than prune juice) and have even tried Berries Go-Mega that has ground flax seed. My appetite is way down (I'm chubby enough that's not a danger). I tried the pain meds 2 times, not a good idea since they gave me a whopper headache and dizziness. The rest I destroyed.

So, either my bowels are very upset from being pushed around (doesn't seem likely after all this time) or my new heart med is slowing me down. I'm used to just going each morning without a problem. This is kind of a drag. Perhaps the mega bruise is from the heart med too. At least that is clearing up. I'll find out tomorrow at the doctor's visit. Thanks all for the feed back. At least I know I should ask, not just wait for it to clear up.

Hi Irene, Your surgery was a while ago, wasn't it?  If you haven't gone yet, maybe try what Sandymac suggested, if you haven't tried any of those things already.  But, you should put a call to you Dr. if it's going on 2 weeks.  That's kind of long.  How's your appetite?  You eating OK?

After my surgery in 2006, I drank Naked Juice, the Blue Machine one.  That really helped and I think I was going by the end of the week.  I found the pain meds would stop me up, too.

Hope you're feeling better and are up and around more!

Hi, I have the 3 small incisions, there was a little bruising but not quite that large. I'm certain it will disappear... As far as the little tortoise problem.. I anticipated that since I'm prone to that and I decided to have my own little solution.. (plus the pain meds cause constipation for me) I take metamucil on a regular basis, and would you believe, I ate prunes ! Oh, and I took stool softeners from day one.. But I don't know if that's o.k for everyone. I just decided I didn't want to have any "problems" that may tear a stitch!! So I prepared.. And I was told to drink TONS of water !  I had my stitches out in 1 week, but it took about 3 weeks to look "healed".. still some discoloration but my Bikini days are far behind me anyway !! Good luck and feel better soon

I just had my ovary and tube removed about 12 days ago laparascopically. A couple of silly questions since I don't know who else to ask:  did you end up with a huge purple and blue bruise on your abdomen after the surgery (about the size of a 3 x 5 card)? and how long did it take your bowels to get back to working order (like pre-surgery)?  I'm trying to decide if my potty problems are from the surgery and will resolve soon or from the new heart medication I'm taking. I won't go into details but if this was the race between the tortoise and the hare, I'm definitely in tortoise mode. (Sorry if this seems trivial. I guess it is in the big scheme of things. I just need to know if this is normal or if I need to rethink the heart med)
