I have stage 3C - fighting 2-1/2 years now.  I was supposed to die last year.  Changed doctors to Sloan.  STarted with CISPLATIN and GEMZAR (gemzidabine (sp?) and had excellent results.  The doctors tend to switch up drugs because otherwise you build up a resistance.  Then went on gemzar briefly and then to carbosplatin/gemzar and then Carbosplatin and doxil (doxirubicon(sp?).  Good results on that too.  The primary drugs are platinum based drugs usually carbosplaint or cisplatin.  Get CA125 numbers every month or few treatments (number range normal is 0 to 30).
My number now 41.  Keep her drinking water - less caffeine and sweets.
And take vitamins - especially helps keep up stamina.  The doctor should be checking the vitamin out to make sure not anemic.  Chemo tends to make a person need transfusions periodically also.  Ovarian cancer keeps coming back - have to stay on top of it - constant monitoring - cat/pet scans, ultrasounds and blood tests and get all the results for own records so if want to get second opinion dont have to ask.  Your are a wonderful sister to help her out - I have sisters too - nothing like sisterhood!

I don't think that there are answers.  No one knows how anyone will react or how they will fight this battle.

I know someone that was a 7 year stage 4 survivor that never went into remission.

Best of luck to you and your family.
