Questions before surgery

Hi ladies.  My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday but of course I'm riding a roller coaster because I have too much time to think.  I have a 10cm mass on the right ovary.

When I met with the surgeon, he went through the MRI with me.  He said he doesn't think it's malignant.  He tossed out a lot of things like dermoid cyst, calcifying endometrioma, LMP, or just a plain benign mass.  He also said it could be a pendulated fibroid that is deteriorating (based on the what looks like the inside of it).

My question is based on what I've read on these forums.  It seems that doctors are able to tell what the masses are from MRIs and sonograms -- if they're cysts, etc?  If this is true, I'm wondering why my doctor isn't sure?  I'm not questioning the doctor (I have a lot of confidence in him) but I'm just wondering.

When I went to my primary care for med clearance, he also brought up the endometrioma possibility and said that "these guys" know what they're looking at and if they thought it was serious I would have had the operation sooner and the gyn onc would be doing it from the beginning (he's going to be on call).

Just wondering what everyone else thinks.  They did finally order a CA-125 but I haven't gotten the results (not sure I'm going to ask).

Ladies, thank you so much.  I'm in a much better place today than I have been.  A good friend of mine had a double mastectomy in 2007 and she told me to have faith.  I do.  I will.

Thankfully I found this forum.  It has given me a lot of good information and encouragement.  I never would have known to go to a gynecologic oncologist without it.

Take care everyone and have a beautiful day.

I can't tell you anything medical that hasn't already been said in the previous posts, but if you are a believing lady, I want to encourage you in your faith. No matter what the outcome, God is with you and will never leave you nor forsake you. He keeps you in the palm of His hand, and there is truly no better place to be. He will take care of you.

Hey there....waiting and wondering is awfully stressful.  I am glad to see you have a gyn/oncologist waiting in the wings until the frozen biopsy results are in.  It is possible to guess what the growths are but it is not possible to know 100% .  All you can do is wait ...... not fun I know.  Hang in there and please do keep us posted.  Keep in mind at least 95% of all growths are benign.   My growth was malignant and removed within 48 hours of it's discovery..... both the gyn and gyn/onc were certain it was malignant by appearance only..... it would have been nice if they had been wrong .... that indicates some drs can make educated guesses and be right.   I hope your docs are good at making educated guesses!
Take care.
Peace.

Ovarian cancer cannot be diagonised without a biopsy....however, there are many doctors that can tell by looking at the scans what they are facing.

Waiting is scary...glad you are having it removed.  Remember that most cysts, masses whatever you want to call them are benign.

Good luck and keep us updated.
