Complex Ovarian Cyst- Rapidly Growing

Hi everyone. I was hoping to find some support and information regarding complex ovarian cysts. Three weeks ago I had an ultrasound done in the ER that revealed a 1.6 cm cyst on my left ovary. Just yesterday I was back in the ER with abdominal pain and they found that the same cyst grew to 6.6 cm! The radiologist has also labeled it as a "complex" cyst. I've looked all over the internet trying to see what the average growth rate of these things is. But i've found nothing regarding the rapid growth of 5x's the size in three weeks! At this point, I'm worried and not sure if surgery is in my future.

Thanks!
Lynnae

Thank you for your reply. My OBGYN wants to wait for 2 months, then do a repeat ultrasound to see if the cyst is still present. If it is, we will proceed with laparascopy surgery. In the mean time I've been put on pain meds...but two months seems like an awfuly long wait. I was in the ER last night with a horrific migraine that begin on Monday. The ER doctor felt it was related to the norco and advised I stop taking it. Instead, he prescribed percocet. He believed it was a better drug for me to be on since I have taken it before with little to no side effects. The norco made me sick to my stomach, and when I took it to help with the migraine it provided no relief. My tummy still hurts every day. Some days it's just dull aching while other days it's pretty severe and requires pain meds. I haven't seen my primary care doctor since all of this started- Instead, I've seen the OBGYN. But now that migraines are occuring I have to follow up with her. I just hope she will give me something less mild like Tramadol for daily use and then also prescribe percocet for the break through pain as needed. Although, my luck she will just tell me to take IB Profin. Fingers crossed she is understanding. My medical records are quite clear that pain meds are a necessity at this point. Thanks again.

HI,
Rapidly growing complex cyst of the ovary requires careful work up. This needs to be correlated with your age, symptoms and desire for child bearing. Tumour markers will help determine nature of the cyst. Also CT scan may be done. Surgery may be necessary.
Hope this helps.
