Laproscopic (Large) Cyst Removal and Recovery

After two weeks of nervousness, today I met with my gyn/onc.  Thanks to all of you I was pretty ready for it.  I'm happy to report that even though my cyst is 18cm X 10cm X 16cm, he is fairly certain that he can remove it laproscopically.  When I asked him about recovery he said probably a week off would do it but it could take up to 2 weeks.  Oh I forgot to mention he is probably going to remove the left ovary as well.

I'm a pretty healthy person (except for this kickball inside my body right now).  Anyone else out there have a lap. procedure done to remove a sizable cyst such as mine?  If so, what was your recovery like?  Thanks again everyone!

I'm scheduled for surgery on 3/3 and it is just a fluid filled cyst.  He said that as long as the cyst isn't too stuck to other organs, he feels sure that a lap with slightly larger incisions will do.  I sure hope that's the case!  It is an outpatient surgery so I hope to be at home sleeping by 4 that afternoon.

Thanks for the answers and the well wishes.  I can't wait for two weeks from today!  I will keep in mind that I might still be tired and weak.  I might try to wiggle a few work from home days in there so I don't eat up ALL my time off.

I had a laproscopic procedure last Monday (8th), they removed a large ovarian cyst along with the left ovary, they initially thought the cyst was the size of an orange but turned out to be much bigger although I'm unsure as to how big.  They did have difficulty getting it out and I was told they opened me up slightly more but my belly button is stitched up nicely!  I feel so much better today (16th) and can't believe I only had the procedure a week ago although I do feel quite weak and very tired.  I am 40 and reasonably fit normally doing around on average one/two hours of exercise a day.  We have to remember we have to walk before we can run.  I was given diclofenac for 5 days and paracetamol and although it was very uncomfortable and quite painful I'm glad I wasn't on any stronger painkillers as these don't help your recovery as far as I'm concerned.

I am pretty shocked that he is going to try to remove it laproscopically.  Is it a fluid filled cyst, I can't remember.  If it is fluid filled, I am guessing that he is going to drain it first?  I am praying that it will only be laproscopically because the healing time is a lot less and it is less pain.  Did he say it would be a same day surgery?  When will your surgery be?  Good luck and I will be praying for you.
