I am not Cathloic but Baptist... In the Baptist church they Dedicate. Julian will be Dedicated this Sunday (Mothers Day) but the only reason for doing itso late is because our Church only doesthem 1 or 2 timesa year Mothers Day and Fathers Day! I think it is a perfect time to Christen her.
My daughter was 11 months when we had her baptized. She was by far the oldest in the bunch, and had everyone amused.
Gina- I totally understand why you are doing it. I already started a precedent though. My husband was raised protestant and he's not very religious at all, but when we got married we got soo many offers (even 2 weeks before the wedding) to get married in the Catholic church and I said no and we did a nice ceremony with a judge, so that basically let them know that that's it for me and the church. So everyone else sort of knows and expects me not to be religious but baptism is a different story, they can't see past it. So I kow where you are coming from I know why you are doing it and I would too if I hadn't already set a precedent, but I've already told my grandma so I can't really break anyone else's heart :P
Yea I'm not going to get into a religious debate...but I too have some issues with religion in general...my husband isn't really religious but he believes in god and wont take his name in vein etc etc. So dh wanted to get him Christened as well and I didnt want to give my grandparents a heart attack, again a main reason why were Christening him. And its not like were raising him anyway, forcing him to believe this or that. He's so young...being Christened doesnt mean he has to do this or do that. Were doing it to make my parents and grandparents happy. And he can still decide what he wants to believe and do when he gets older. Christening him wont change that at all.
i am catholic and my family just waited and waited to get me baptized. i was in catholic school and everything. my brother came along when i was 6, and we were baptized togehter (he was 2 months and i was 6). so i guess youre not too old at any age!
My grandma about had a heart attack when I told her that I wasn't baptizing my kids. I'd just rather let them decide what they want to do when they are older. I also have personal issues with Catholicism so I wouldn't do it in that faith anyway.
my son was nearly six months old and to be honest he enjoyed every bit of attention. I think when they're around 5-6 months their old enough not to be sleeping most the day or feeding as much because obviously everyone wants a hug. :D
Yea I hear ya Ziggy! My dad is really religious, my mom isn't. But growing up we were always forced to go to Church and have our Confirmation etc etc. And like your family, they lived down the street from their church.
But we just moved to this area 2 months before Caiden was born so finding a nice Catholic church in the area was so difficult and quite a pain! Infact all the planning for his Christening has been a pain! But we promised our Grandma we would Christen him...and than I figure after that we're not going to force him to do anything he doesn't want too. And if our parents or anyone else doesn't agree with that, too bad! :) I always tell people, do what you want with your kids, let me do what I want with mine! ha!
oh goodness Gina..if my father could read ur post it would open SUCH a can of worms for me,lol....I have three kids, a 7 y/o, a 4y/o and an 8 m/o....and only my oldest is baptized. Its not that I dont want to get my other 2 baptized, its just hard to get it all together. Not to mention that I swear where I live in AZ I cant find a catholic church!!! You need to be a member (As in give the church money in your envelope for like 6 weeks) before you can even get your child baptized. My dad acts like I am personally hammering nails into his coffin every minute that passes that my children go unbaptized.......UGH. They just dont understand how easy it was for them with us living across the street from a church, and me ultimatly going to a catholic school, so all religious things were done automatically.,
My daughter was 11 months when I had gotton her baptized. You can get a baptism when ever you would like. I waited so long because my husband was in IRAQ
I was raised Catholic but DH is Baptist. Neither of us practice either religion but we are Christening him for our parents, and my Grandparents who are very religious. We already decided were not going to force him to believe anything or raise him Catholic...he can believe and practice whatever he wants, we just wanted to do this for our parents/grandparents.
Thanks ladies!
I'm Catholic too and I don't even want to tell you how long I have waited to do this for my kids. Same reason....Just get busy, so don't even worry about it.
Not at all. I've seen babies that are a year old or even todlers getting baptized.
I was raised Catholic but I don't practice it. I'm sure the question will come up in my family because we decided that we will not do it.
